thanks dude pero unfortunately two days lang uli ako sa pinas just to visit my mom's grave. kaya iiwan ko yung pedals sa utol ko at siya nalang magdidistribute.

Part two of the modded Vox wah series.

i've added a new knob called "crackle ok" and more settings on the multi wah knob. I've replaced the color changing LED to a regular orange one. I found out that the LED is adding noise to the wah effect. And finally a switch to enable the Super Hard On pre boost.

The guts  :-D

List of features
-True bypass switch
-Vocal like sweep
-Multiwah - 11 wah modes and a volume pedal mode accessible via selector knob.
-SHO (Super Hard On) pre boost circuit with switch and "crackle ok" knob.
-Orange LED

thanks sa mga nagreply.  :-)

here's another pedal. i call it...

Aling Minda's Zen Cocodrive SG

It's a zendrive clone. And the most troublesome pedal i built. Madali lang yung circuit pero it took me two days to troubleshoot. Sira na pala yung volume pot. I manage to damage it while drilling some holes on the aluminum casing, kaya nadelay yung three in one na pedal ko.

crappy artwork. it's a hologram cover of a famous cartoon movie.

I modified the circuit. I added a SG switch for the clipping section. Pwedeng pumili between germanium diodes or schottkys. May slight scoop ang tunog ng germaniums and gets really nasty at full gain. Slightly brighter naman ang schottkys at oks pag full gain. I'm also using an analog device AD712NJ op amp.

Clips!! Not sure kung may chirp yung videos. I'm not a robben ford fan kasi at di ako familiar dun sa chirp na tunog. I hope meron sa mga demo ko.

Demo 1

Demo 2 - Comparison of the clipping modes.

Enjoy. :)

no compressor sir. it's tube amp compression from my laney lc15r. single channel lang siya i set my gain at 8 o' clock and yet it distorts a little when you pick hard. very typical sound of a laney lc amp. add mo pa yung high output jb model bridge pickup sa guitar ko.  :-D

I've been fascinating with pedal modifications and boutique pedals these past few days because of the Vox Satchurator mod... Hehe.

Kasi nung makita ko ung Satchurator sa stores and ung Jemini, I thought they are somehow "perfect" kasi anlulupit nung mga signature namesakes nila. Tapos un pala kaya pa talaga iimprove.

Gaganda ng gawa niyo sir. More power! :-D

Thanks. Yan kasi problem ng mass production. Companies will try to keep the costs down as much sa possible para mas malaki ang profit. For example yung 3pdt footswitch costs $10 pero instead ginamitan nila ng switching components for half the cost. And sometimes they will use low grade components para lalong makatipid sacrificing the pedal's tone and floor noise level.

Last week when I got the Satchurator, this caught my attention.

It told myself, after a week, kung nandito pa ito, kunin ko na ito.  :-D

Medyo deceiving yung name "Xtortion". Akala ko din nung una parang metal zone. It's somewhat in the territory of the metal zone and the ds-1, tweakable with the "contour" knob. Yung "punch" knob naman is like a frequency notch, parang cocked wah effect (ala zakk wylde). Medyo noisy itong pedal na ito dahil it uses 3 mitsubishi general purpose opamps and a lot of 1uF electrolytic caps. I experimented with the opamps, I tried OPA2134 , TI RC4558s, tl072s and AD721s. The opa2134 overloads the distortion circuit, ok naman tl072s pero pag dalawa na silang pinalitan, nagfefeedback na. The RC4558s are just right. Laki din ng difference sa tone at floor noise levels. :)

Added two switches (umiiral na naman pagiging programmer ko  :-D)  the first switch is like a frequency selector for the "punch" knob. I was able to approximately dial in Dimebag's CBFH tone with this switch in conjunction with the contour knob, pero konting tweak pa sa tone stack. The second switch disables the "punch" circuit, parang OD mode. Might put a J201 FET here. Still a lot of work needs to be done with this pedal.

Will post my mods here pag natapos ko na. :)

Napa-tingin ako tuloy hahehehe.

I've given up na on my XT2. Kahit na anong gawin kong buka and center frequency adjust, I just can't get to a point where I'm happy with the XT2. It's just so boxy sounding. Maybe it just needs more time.

kaya i added a switch to bypass the punch circuit with makes this pedal sound boxy. i loose a lot of gain by doing that, kaya try ko mag-add ng biased j201 or an mpf102 para maibalik uli yung pagka distortion ng pedal :)

I don't have the schematic on me at the moment (as in on my person right now)...

But if you need more gain, try tweaking the gain stages that come before or after the punch circuit and raise the gain by adjusting the Rf/Ri ratio...normally by increasing the value of the feedback resistor of the gain stage.

This way you won't need to add an additional FET.

I'll be more specific when I get to my computer :-D.

But thanks for that suggestion of disabling the punch circuit. That should be a starting point for me.

FWIW.

Thanks for the tip. I'm using a dpdt switch to bypass the punch circuit. I don't know if I have space in the pedal to replace it with a 3pdt for the resistor swap in the first feedback loop. Or probably I could put another switch! :D The more the marrier! Hehe.

Got it. The easiest and most versatile way to have more gain available is to replace vr1 with something higher. From 50k stock, replace to 100k or even 250k. But maybe you should try 100k first. This will raise the available gain of the pedal prior to the clip stage para "distortion" pa din sya, even when the punch circuit is bypassed.

Oops before I forget. VR1 is the distortion potentiometer :-D.

Maybe together we'll crack this pedal.

cool! i'll try this out tonight. pwede nga i-bypass nalang yung punch, tapos replace ICs 1 and 2 with TI rc4558s. Medyo increased na yung gain pag nagpalit ng opamp kaya increasing the value of the distortion pot seems enough and makes it more organic sounding.  :-) replacing the 1uF caps with mkt caps reduces the noise.

another trick i did is to change the capacitor on c23. this moves the "punch" frequency. with bigger value (around 150nF) parang heel ng wah ang tunog and with lower value (39nF) parang tip naman ng wah. i placed a switch here para pwede ko ibalik sa stock or to another cap that i like.

Sali ako jan... Teka kuha ako martilyo...

yan gamit ng nanay ko sa family computer namin nung bata ako kapag nahuhuli akong naglalaro ng madaling araw.  :-D

I've compared the stock GE-7 with your modded GE-7 na. Got to gig with the modded pedal last night. Works as expected. Nice fat boost (if thats what you're using it for) for solos.

At gig levels, and the way i set it, its just like a regular GE-7. Last night i used my Edwards e-lp-98lts with skatterbrane A2's into a keeley rat then GE-7 then some small 1x12 laney (kung anong model man yung nasa route 196). Like I said, it worked just like its supposed to, just like a regular GE-7. Its an EQ pedal anyway. No "it made me sound 10x more musical" miracles here. Plus, the way i set it isn't extreme at all (400=+3, 800=+5, 1.6k=+5, 3.2k=+3, the rest at 0, level anywhere between 0 to 5 depending on how the amp reacts to the boosted frequencies) so yung gains of using higher quality components isn't that obvious. I use it massage the right frequencies into place as opposed to hammering them into submission.

Those gains I only saw this morning. I made 3 vids. I used a Burny lc-70rr with SD '59/JB pups. I kept it on the JB (the noisier of the 2 pups) the whole time and didn't play at all. The guitar was just there to introduce regular guitar electronic noise. The amp is my old Marshall 8040 on the clean channel cranked up to 8 (which is why i couldn't do any actual playing; maaga pa e). Everything is connected with cables I made myself (klotz cables and neutrik connectors). I tested the EQs 2 bands at a time, all the way up (which is the wrong way to use EQ for guitar). Level at 0.

So, here are my err... findings:
1) 6.4k and 3.2k - halos identical. both pedals sounded hissy. which is to be expected. you're boosting white noise frequencies from the guitar electonics and cables after all. medyo finer grained lang yung hiss from the modded pedal pero hissy pa din
2) 1.6k and 800 - here you'll start hearing the difference na. at these frequencies (where most guitar's "meat" is and the frequencies normally boosted for solo work to cut through a dense mix), the modded box was considerably more quiet here.
3) 400, 200 and 100 - again, you'll immediately notice how much more quiet the modded pedal is at these frequencies. in fact, at these frequencies, yung hiss you hear from the stock pedal is almost non existent on the modded one.

you can actually hear these differences dun sa vids i made with my crappy digicam and its crappy built in mic.

so yun. arjin, good on ya mate. i'm keeping this. :-D i'll post the vids in a bit or send them to you.

pic of the guts pala:

I gotta close the case on this xt-2 xtortion mod.

here's what i've done so far.

replace all 1uF electrolytic caps with 1uF MKT caps (reduces noise)
except for c10, replace with 33nF capacitor (reduces the muddiness of this pedal)
replace r23 with 100 ohm resistor (increases distortion)
replace c16 cap with 33nf (makes the contour more usable before the 11 o' clock range)

video:
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=07jplUUSiyE

optional
replace IC1 and IC3 with TI RC4558 op amp. the mitsubishi opamp sounds harsh to me. it also increases the gain of the pedal.
replace IC2 with Burr Brown OPA2134 op amp. Reduces the noise coming from the punch circuit and has better tonal characteristics than the stock mitsubishi opamp.
replace clipping LED1 with a germanium diode.
add switch between r20 and r21 - bypass punch circuit
change c23, this is for the punch knob. higher value gives it a bassy, wah weel type sound. lower values gives it a more nasal wah sound.

next pedal inline for modding  :-D

it's good sounding but not that great. i mean, it does have a unique sound but it can be achieved with a DS-1 plus an EQ pedal or a wah. I managed to take away the muddy tone, but then it starts to sound more like a ds-1.
