Title: GAS vs Practice
Post by: Jellybean on July 12, 2017, 12:57:09 PM
I was trying to look for a thread about this but couldn't find any.

I just want to ask your opinion, advice, suggestions, violent reactions  on this topic.

To put it simply, I'm guilty of having GAS for so many guitar related gear but I don't put enough time on practice.
My job demands a lot from me and when I get home, if I'm not exhausted, I have to spend time with my family otherwise I'd be sleeping.
For a long time now, I have been planning to dedicate at least 1 hour/day of practice but couldn't stick to it (same goes for my diet and workout plans  :-P)
So for those who are also busy but are successful in striking a perfect balance between GAS attacks and practice, what is your secret?

sabi nila stay away from your pc or intertnet para hindi ka mapasearch at makakita ng kung ano-ano. nagawa ko before yung matagalang practice and somehow nakadevelop ng stamina, strength saka decent speed na hindi sloppy while im away from internet. kaso nasira na naman ng mobile gaming ang routine ko hahaha. so ayun! stay away siguro, unahan mo na at aminin mo sa sarili mo na kapag nasa harap ka ng pc eh maghahanap ka lang ng kung ano-anong gears online. haha applicable din sa kin to. good luck to us finding the time to practice!

mahirap mag practice na at the same time nakatutok ka sa PC at naghahanp ng bagong gear lalo na kung naka bookmark pa sa browser yung favorite porn site mo

Hindi totoo na wala tayong time to practice kahit 30 mins lang a day. Ang dami nating time na sinusunog sa social media, games, apps etc. That fact that andito tayo sa Philmu ngayon just shows that we have time. If you are really serious about getting something done, set aside time for it and stay away from activities that just waste time.

Ika nga ng lolo ko, kapag gusto maraming paraan. Kapag ayaw.....

Haha.

Rule #1 of guitar string maintenance: Wash your hands before you play.  :nosebleed:

Guilty! hahaha pero lately, nagagawa ko atleast 30mins-1hr a day ang practice/noodling/riff writing ko. Malakas talaga mag-consume ng oras ang games (mobile, PC, console etc.,) kaya jan ako umiiwas.

Reward yourself.

"If i can get to practice 1 hour a day for 365 days straight...i will reward myself with a new Guitar/Amp/Pedal etc."

This. Mapipilitan talaga na mag-practice lalo na pag active sa gigging ang band.

Yup! Especially when writing songs, you need to work on your creativity(learn new scales and stuff that would work).
Though it can build up GAS when you're aiming for a specific tone haha

I have a band and a day job too. I practice for 4 hours once a week.

Noodling, discovering something new on my pedalboard or something different, making riffs and at the same time recording it so you will not forgot any parts that you made.

gigging regularly will decrease your gas significantly especially if you don't have a car to lug all your gear, so you're pretty much stuck with at most 3 pedals, a tuner, OD/boost and delay.

get a quick practice amp like the blackstar idcore20. that way wala ka excuse na "ang hirap magsetup eh" at least ditto, plug and play ka with effects. good enough for noodling and exercising.

isa pa, 30 minutes a day goes a long way na. bawas facebook. I gitara mo nalang.

I think GAS and practice go hand and hand because GAS provides the inspiration for us to pickup the guitar and woodshed. #Excuses
