I download a lot, but only to preview new releases to see if it's worth it. In fact, downloading has actually increased the number of original cd's I buy...this year alone, I've already bought 36 cd's so far. It's actually heavier on my wallet (around $10-18 per cd, plus shipping) since I buy music primarily online...because the metal titles that I want are not available locally. Although, Nocturnal Records in Recto has become a solid second option for me, they have an excellent selection of original metal cd's going for around php 600-1000 each. The only cd's that I buy locally are those from local artists, great new releases this year from Sin and Intolerant.
Music One has actually made a good first step of sorts, they've recently shipped in some Roadrunner imports (courtesy of Warner Music). New and old titles from Megadeth, Down, Dream Theater, Cavalera Conspiracy, Soulfly, 3 Inches Of Blood, Opeth, Obituary, Machine Head, Dragonforce, Devildriver, Trivium and Suffocation (WOW!!!) to name a few, priced at php 650. Off-topic, but everyone even remotely into death metal NEEDS to get a copy of Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten from M1 IMMEDIATELY. A landmark of technical/brutal death metal.
Local labels need to take a cue from Warner Music's lead and cater to us metalheads. Hopefully we'll see local availability of titles from the other big metal labels: Century Media, Nuclear Blast, Earache, Peaceville, etc.
