Kaimito is a hard wood, almost solid.
A friend just got some Kaimito with awesome flames. Downside is, it's as heavy as a rock LOL

I has a Custom guitar with caimito top..yep the wood is heavy and very very hard (like the bandsaw giving up hard) I was expecting the guitar to sound very bright because of the hardness of the wood..but the opposite actually happened. The guitar sounded thick and warm.  :-D

sir dennis, panu ba magpost ng pics d2 sa thread na ito??? :-(..
..
xenxa po bago plng nakisali sa mga discussions like these..panu mkaupload ng pics??.. :-D

..it's a warm sounding guitar, i used 2 chrome covered humbuckers..tried it in an epiphone 15w amp...& sa Goldea tube amp..its heavy though..haha..due to narra & ironwood neck nya..pero sa tunog, im fully satisfied with it..first project kong tumunog yun e..actually i first built a les paul replica, si Pablo..same specs of wood used..& 2hb pups, kya lng mas naunang na-complete installation c telepaul kya xa unang tumunog,..i can say na lalaban ang local woods natin in terms of tunog with "foreign wood"guitars..hehe..my subjective point of view.. :)

Mahogany is my favorite body for electric guitar, but then yun nga sabi it is very much regulated na. I am very interested in learning different alternatives to mahogany. The most popular is nato. Then there one called Kalantas. I remember when Mike Mushok was with Ibanez his signature guitar was made of Kalantas. I saw this wood for sale in Sagada and in the Banawe Rice Terraces gift shop. Pero sold as sangkalan (chopping board).

Maybe there are more. Korina is pricier and rarer than mahogany.

Any discussion about it is greatly appreciated.

^True mahogany s easily available here.  In fact a lot of tonewood suppliers and even custom builders from the US source their tropical woods here.  So build without fear hehehe

I rediscovered my grandmother's cabinet, just dying away in a bodega, so I made a guitar out of it.  The cabinet is at least 50 years old.

Then I found a stump on the side of the road.  I just had to make something out of it.

I'm hoping to grow out of this phase of getting trash and making instruments out of them hehehe
