I think it sounds best played with single coils , especially strats. If you're into the "SRV, Mayer, Philip Sayce, Kenny Wayne Sheperd,etc blues" thing, then the FD-2 is a perfect fit.
They sound good with chords also, but just a little bit smooth for me. I prefer having a bit of grit for chord work.

after so many years and of the ones that I've tried and/or owned, I still love the all-around tonefulness and flexibility of the AnalogMan King of Tone v4. It is not really transparent, but it adds a great OD flavor to one's tone.
