im a bitches brew live evil sucker din hehe! cge i ll look for more, sarap mag DL! hahaha.. and sell copies? bad

I have the Bitches Brew box set! They used to sell this in Tower Makati real cheap - P1500 lang yata.
But up to now I still can't dig it!! It's still sounds to far out for me. Maybe If I listen everyday I'll appreciate it by 2008. :)

ButI have Miles' "In a Silent Way" in my car CD now and it's not bad, very good jams.

I second the motion to mr.mahavishnu aka nora aunor's advice to please first listen to the original double album release of Bitches Brew before getting lost with the 4 disc box set... bigat talaga nun like the 3 disc Complete In A Silent way sessions... thats the birth of heavy fusion right there  :-)

well my head's still spinning to Mahavishnu's recordings...  :-o

I have the edited "In A Silent Way", not the box set - essentially two long cuts (during the time of the LP, it was Side A and Side B). Funny to me this album sounds "smoother" (mas pogi?) than Bitches Brew. Nice riffs and vamps to solo over. It actually sounds like a contemporary jam instead of something recorded in 1968!

I'll take your advice on the "cut and paste" version. I actually only have two Miles box sets- Bitches Brew and the Complete Gil Evans sessions. Mas gusto ko pa rin yung 50's and 60's miles compared to the 70's and 80's miles. It's a matter of taste I guess!

One thing about Miles though is that whatever the era and style he always manages to sound current. Whatta guy!!

in a silent way is ear friendly they even used it for the movie Finding Forrester. i think they used the whole album for all throughout the film  :-D

I agree with you on the 80's Miles --- the days when he was surrounded by synth players with bad 80's clothes and hair and he was covering pop tunes like Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" and Michael Jackson's "Human Nature" . Miles was also playing this red trumpet and never seemed to take off his mute. So instead of hearing those bold sinewy Miles lines of the 50's and 60's we are left with a few well placed bleats punctuating the tunes passing for solos.

Unfortunately this is the period we get to see on the few Miles DVDs (or shall we say dibidi) out there.

I kinda liked his last album though (circa 1991 I think) called Doo-Bop where he played some hiphop.

Jim, isn't that Manolo Badrena who overlapped Jaco by a year or two during the Heavy Weather period?  Medyo grainy yung vid and my eyes are not that good, but the beard looked kinda familiar.

Your guess is as good as mine! While I always read his name on liner notes I had no idea what he looked like - in fact I never saw any live Weather Report videos until today thanks to "You Chube".

Here's Weather Report, Peter Erskine edition, doing "Birdland" live in 1978:
