Well, it's not really about showing off.  It's more about artistic and musical reasons.  If we have the gear and kung kaya nating gawin ito, then why not?  Eventually, the hard work and diligence in bringing your personal gear will pay off, and it will reflect on your performance.

But if one is bringing gear just to show off, then that's an immature and malicious intention or way of thinking.

Sir Gep is right. Sometimes bad house kits bring out the best in us drummers.

BUT (Yep, may but haha)

When the snare doesn't have wires...
When the bass pedal thinks it's a digital delay effect...
When the cymbals are all torn apart or essentially nonexistent...

It becomes hard to make the audience appreciate your sound.
I personally bring a minimum of a snare, hi-hat clutch, cymbal arm, and cymbal set to gigs if I'm not familiar with the equipment.

Adding to what I said on my previous replies, another reason why bringing my own kit is a better idea is because I don't want to compromise when it comes to sound quality.  Every gig, I want my band to sound as good as possible.  In my part, I want the drums to sound and feel good.

My band plays R&B and hip-hop music.  And it would be just right to have drums and cymbals which sound right for that kind of music.  In some of the venues we perform in, they have house kits that sound more appropriate for rock music or for other styles of music.  And when I play those kits, it doesn't feel or sound right for our style of music.

Well, that's just me.  I prefer taking my own kit with me.  I plan to do this once I'm able to purchase a decent mid-level kit (my goal this Christmas).  I already bring so much stuff on gigs.  Adding a few more components (say, a few toms and additional stands) should add a bit of work for me and our p.a.

But I don't mind the extra work.  It's a labor of love.

well, whenever i have a gig in our church...hehe, i just bring my snare, pedal, cymbals and stick bag.

i don't mind bringing my kit to any gigs in our church, the only thing is, mas maganda yung kit namen sa church eh...6-piece Pearl Session Series...while i have an Ultra-cool, slick looking Fernando kit. :-D :-D

for me, every drummer should bring what ever they could to play better, sound better and most of all perform better, whether it be as simple as your snare, pedal or as big as your personal kit. Your audience won't be looking at your kit but on how you play them.

my 2 cents for you Bro!

i do, albeit just pieces of it most of the time. tapos kailangan 2 or 3 bands lang kasama sa gig at palagi pa dapat kilala ko yung mga drummer.

i only brought out my full kit just once but had to trim down the cymbals coz of space limitations. hassle kapag maliit lang yung sasakyan

medyo OT: it bothers me when people say that you shouldnt adjust drums on gigs, that you should just sit and play...parang sinabi mo na humiram ka ng sasakyan tapos hindi mo iaadjust yung side mirrors at seat para makapag drive ka ng maayos...

i let guys rearrange my kit and i make sure to tell them that they can.

I only bring mine during special occasions like debuts, receptions, cocktails or stuff like that... especially when I'm the only drummer playing that night.. but when another drummer borrows it. I pull out my crappy cymbals coz I don't want to find any cracks or damages on my cymbals, plus I don't want any conflict with other drummers or bands (baka makarating pa sa court ehehe) I only bring my kit to events like that for some close friends and relatives, it serves as a gift for them coz it saves them from rent expenses.

sticks
crash
snare
drum key
pliers (para sa uncooperative stands)
masking / electrical tape (for emergency purposes)
