our guitar today will be vintage tomorow

Just a thought well for example we have bought a 2008 tele or strat, then after 30-40 years surely this will be vintage. So keeping it stock will make it more valuable do you agree? Modifications will make its value lesser, but on certain points guitarist like to mod their guitars according to their personal use, but do you have a guitar that you keep all stock? Its cool when we are all 70 years old and we have our all stock 2008 guitar mint our grand children and yougn guitarist will get envious haha

man i'm in my 40's. got a US 57 Strat. after decades & decades of use & abuse, parang Rory Gallager na sa pagka relic, but still plays like butter ... all stock parin  

by 2039 maybe i can trade that for a Porsche Carrera Turbo or a Maserati... and then, my grandkids would say... "hey grandpa... this car is way so awesome than your vintage strat"

while I'm left the rocking chair, playing acoustic blues on a dobro

yes after 30 years it will become vintage but it's price may only appreciate if there are only a few left of the same model and the model you have is of good quality. with factories churning our guitars in volumes that may not be an assurance though.

but then who would have thought that guitars from the 70s and 80s would cost that much today

my Strat has been w/ me for ages... some dudes have offered me their cars, FX, even a 750cc big bike. but unless it's a Harley, i won't part w/ my baby ( it's posted here at the Strat thread ) I've used that for gigs, recording, workshops, clinics... & now my kids are using it... for me, a vintage Strat is the ultimate axe. ( IMHO ) lang naman. oks din ang 335 & Teles.

Just keep the stock parts if you intend to keep its resale value. In 30-40 years from now I can imagine the real vintage ones from the 50's and 60's commanding huge prices (as if they don't already), maybe even the ones from the 70's.. But yung mga gawa ngayon I doubt, there's too many in circulation and it won't be as hard siguro to reproduce.. unless by then extinct na yung mga puno for tone woods. Who knows? Yung mga Japanese guitars from the 80's are increasing in price already, but not so much though.

Unlike current production guitars, the pre-70's materials and environment is very difficult to duplicate. For example: Brazillian Rosewood cannot be imported anymore, some chemicals/processes are restricted by OSHA now, etc.. We can only speculate how much will change 30-40 years from now. Sana naman hindi pa rare ang puno

@ermon, haha dont worry about it bro, all people are not immortal anyway 

@boogsy, yes but come to think of it a single maple tree will take a long time to grow(years), not to mention it will just be cut in a few minutes or something. Yes brazilian rosewood is pretty rare now.. I feel sad for my grand children if they will use guitars made of plastic  but they will not. Their friends will get envy when they will use my vintage guitars made of wood (considering its future time)

it may be vintage because of how old it is..but if a market doesn't exist for the said guitar..it doesn't guarantee that the price would be more than what you paid for...

+1 for the same reason, 60's teiscos arent really worth much. That being said, I have a feeling 30-40 years from now the vintage market would revolve around Suhrs, Andersons, Tylers, JGs.. not so much the commercial stuff.

yeah those have a more likely chance of retaining or adding to their market value, especially when they start shipping production to MIK,MII,MIC (we hope not),

I have an 1980 "The Strat" See info: The Strat

Next year it would 30 years old. Will that qualify as vintage?

FYI: It is a Made in USA guitar, just in case someone wants to ask
