Trust me, it's easier to just say what it does than what it exactly is. I tried explaining it to KitC, who is a fellow ECE and I still had a hard time and looking back on how I explained it, it was still in bits and pieces. Di bale, that's not important. We are musicians, so let's just be pragmatic about it. If it works, it works ! Ganun na lang.

In short, you can't argue with results. ;-)

here's the clip...

1st run, yung before clip, si elmo was playing, aria strat, all stock. roland cube 40 amp, miked. taken using garageband.

2nd run, after clip, same setup, now with the "scalarizer" (hate the name, love the thing, hehe) installed.

if the first link doesn't work, try nyo 'to, look for the scalarizer before and after item then download it.

di ko matiis, i had to comment.

the mic we used for recording was the same mic thatPeewee used when he recorded the Haze Jam sessions (ung mic ng Mac G4 ni Peewee). flat eq settings , no effects(modulations or time based), its plain clean guitar tone. I just hope na this clip gives justice to our claim na the scalarizer is indeed a marvelous addition to those seeking tone nirvana.

comment n a lng po kau. Pacensia na I had to make it simple para mas madinig ung detail kesa gumawa ng mga licks . Mas ok sya gamitin on rhythm coz all the notes are heard.

hehe nagka-volume drop kasi medyo napalayo yung computer dun sa amp, hehe. sa umpisa lang naman kasi nilapit ko ng onte nung bandang gitna.

Besides that, I think I hear a very slight volume drop. But indeed, smoother top, more controlled bottom.

Ok naman sya. Andun pa din yung strat sound. Mas naging controlled yung ibang frequencies. Medyo naging "woody" nga yung tunog. Mas maganda siguro kung push/pull yung isang pot mo para you can take the scalarizer off the signal if you want.

...
My RJ PRS has a DPDT switch that selects between metal and crystal scalarizers...

Hmmm... this promises to turn a strat into a very flexible tone monster!!! now, where to put the switch?....  :-D

di ko matiis is share sa inyo yung vocal scalarizer....

im not done yet with mixing yung recorded namin last night with my client pero here are some things i gathered re: vocal scalarizer.

* 1st demo mp3 my client gave me eh sobrang payat ng boses nya, di pa magkaka body yung boses nya kung di lalagyan ng reverb or vocal double.

* while me doing rough mix for what we recorded last night kaninang lunch, i tried listening to the vocal track ngayon kasi nagtataka ako bat parang mataba yung boses ngayon w/o me adding a plugin yet  sa vocal track.

* i then compared the vocal track we recorded dito sa house and the one we recorded last night. im pretty sure its not with the mic that was used kasi condenser mics intends to capture all frequencies not to enhance the voice recorded.

ill create a sondclick account muna for this client of mine and ill upload both vocal track wit and without the scalarizer

Think about... BIG TWANG!  :-D

Somehow, that expression reminds me of Bamf's keychain... creepy how Bamf seems to have gotten so attached to it.

pasencia na BAMF... i-reveal ko na... di ko talaga mapigil

HEY GUYS... WATCH OUT FOR THE ACOUSTIC SCALARIZER!!!!

when you go to Bamf's place... try to bring an acoustic guitar with you, then try to listen what a scalarizer can do to your acoustic guitar

Ngayon lang ako maka-relate sa thread na 'to.. acoustic na ang usapan eh..
I'm very intrigued. Tell me more!  :-D

Based on an idea by veg_joe, I stumbled upon something even more amazing still. I think bamf is in a better position to reveal the new discovery and perhaps Sushi can make the review at the same time. Suspense ...

Kakauwi ko lang. Grabe. Every night I come home from the shop, I'm so happy tired.

Upon the suggestion of micsis (actually nauna na sya na subukan) I put a crystal and metal core scalarizer in parallel and tested the guitar.

HOLY [gooey brown stuff] !!!!

It's like two guitarists playing the same notes simultaneously, but on guitars with different characteristics ! Like the solo on Hotel California ! Dualling guitars ! Ang kapal sobra ng tunog, grabe !!!

Ewan ko...my fatigued ears might be fooling me, I have to try this again tomorrow.

Then, I also finished three prototypes of the acoustic scalarizer. Nakuha agad ni Floyd Nikita yung isang prototype.

FREAKY ! Ididikit mo lang sa body ng electric (actually last night sa acoustic guitar namin dinidikit), I mean hawakan mo lang at idikit, and KUMAKAPAL ANG TUNOG NG GUITAR. FREAAAKKY !!!

Actually I shouldn't be that freaked out kasi I knew where I was going when I stuck a ceramic transducer to a disk-type scalarizer. Maybe I surprised myself, I never thought it would actually work !

Ahhh well.

Sa mga pupunta tomorrow, bring your guitars, and I hope someone will bring an acoustic. The new acoustic scalarizer can be installed non-intrusively with Duct Tape...installed inside the sound cavity. If you want it more permanent, construction glue or epoxy or maybe wood glue would do.

Hayy nakoh. The BAMF dictum strikes again. TO PLAY IS TO BELIEVE !

The 2 types of scalarizers connected in parallel into one guitar is like hearing the two characteristcs of each distinctly but still in harmony with each other. No BAMF, its not your fatigued ears coz i was hearing the same effect and i just had dinner then and wasnt tired at all. para kang naka headphone with two separate guitars coming out from each channel. The sustain is even longer and the decay of the notes lingers in the room. Hay naku makatulog na.

galing kanina sa "temple of tone" (headquarters nina psychic_sushi). ;p
grabe ang nagagawa nung acoustic scalarizer!
dikit lang, mas nagngingitgit ang gitara! mas litaw!
malalaman nyo ang difference kahit nakapikit/naka-blind fold.
amazing talaga!

Does the scalarizer directly pick up the resonance of the strings when in contact with the wood even without a transducer?

I'm not sure if such thickness as per your comments is always a good thing, though.

In any case, I would've volunteered my acoustic if I could go tomorrow. Maybe next week. But I'll pass on the duct tape. lol!

The first, first prototype, which turned out to be a dud (open circuited core) didn't work. Which I think now, means that the ceramic transducer is necessary to transfer the vibrations to the core.

And yeah, the thickness will be a matter of preference, not really something that everyone will appreciate. For one, I like the "airyness" of my RJ PRS, which suddenly "solidifies" when the acoustic scalarizer is brought into contact.

For acoustic guitars, it gives this sense of "body",as if your guitar is a deep dreadnought, even if you're playing a slim-bodied guitar. . I wanna test drive it pa more before I openly offer it to the community.
