Need Help! (Pedal Arrangement for my Pedalboard)
« on: September 14, 2019, 06:34:52 AM »
Noob here. Quick question. How should I arrange these pedals in order?

I also have a Boss ME80, Mooer Pitch Shifter, Zoom MS-70 CDR and ISP Decimator.

Playing in a doomgaze/sludge band. And also in a dreampoppish band.

Please feel free to suggest another order.

Thanks!
:)

1. Digitech Drop > MXR M108 > Xotic SP Compressor

2. MXR M108 > Digitech Drop > Xotic SP Compressor

3. Xotic SP Compressor > MXR M108 > Digitech Drop

4. Xotic SP Compressor > Digitech Drop > MXR M108

hi sir.. everybody has it's own way of arranging pedal chains and so no one can argue about it.. i myself sometimes have this taste of doing it out of the box as i understand others taste too.. like having 2 analog delay pedals instead of 1 digital delay pedal or having phaser and tremolo for vibrato instead of the usual chorus+tremolo and placing it before my dirt pedals..
but here's what i know everybody use as default pedal chain arrangement ▼

AMP ◄ (preamp) ◄ Reverb ◄ Delay ◄ modulation ◄ noise gate ◄ (preamp)-eq ◄ distortion-overdrive-booster ◄ compressor ◄ envelope filter-synth-wah-wah pedals ◄ (preamp) ◄ tuner ◄ GUITAR

just enjoy exploring your desired tone! there's nothing more adventure than exploring it yourself.. you just need proper discretion to pull it off :)

you can also see Frequently Asked Questions Thread.. a good read too..

Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.

God bless Ü

ok now for what it's worth, here's my personal take..

  • AMP < mxr 108-band eq < xotic sp compressor < digitech drop < GUITAR
  • medyo mahirap lang mag forecast kung may multifx kasi hindi natin alam kung anong type ng fx ang gagamitin mo since it all have guitar effects type inside it.. for example:
    • if you're going to place the boss me80 between mxr 10-band eq & xotic sp compressor.  that means when you use delay or reverb with boss me-80 it would contradict the usual way of placing eq pedals rught after dirt pedals.. but don't get ne wrong it's ok because eq pedals are sometimes considered to be preamp pedals
    • or even if you use pitch shifter/whammy-like effects with boss me-80.. it will literally be"limited" already.. because the output of boss me-80 will be compressed already and instead of allowing certain frequency to be freely heard, it will now be cut-down at a certain threshhold just like when you put your wah pedal after a compressor pedal bawas na yun sweep.. therefore will be limited
  • the same principle applies to your remaining multifx's
  • your mooer pitch shifter should be place as digitech whammy/drop or as modulation pedal
  • your isp deciminator will be place after your dirt pedals as all the unwanted noises should be filtered from.. i also like to suggest thinking twice after echo pedals and/or modulation pedals as it will filter pink noises from your modulation pedals such as flanger, phaser, chorus, etc
