Guys, i'm really not a hard-core drummer in terms of after-market brands... kaya wala ko masyado alam sa snares.
Hingi sana ako ng favor, can you help me compare this snare? anong snare ba ka-level nito? say... JJ snare?

Thanks!

in terms of price i'd say the same, but value-wise this is higher than JJ.

Pork pie li'l squealer being a maple snare is comparable to mid-end maple snares IMO.. malayo xia sa JJ with the JJ being steel.. meron nung 12x5 version ng squealer, tried comparing it to a pearl firecracker snare way back, iba talaga tunog niyan. wag mo na pakawalan!

Thanks. :-) There's nothing fancy about this snare I'm building. Am old fashioned. :-D It's been a long time I've been cut from drumming due to my profession. :-D Drums is my passion. For now, I am restoring my old kit and this, building a custom snare as to my preferred specs.  8-) Finished 2nd coat of wood stain. :-)

depende din sa tunog na hanap mo.. industry standard na ung mga 14x5 - 14x5.5 snare drums.. picollo snares are generally more on effects nga nung nagsimula pero ngayon pwede na gawing main snare na din.. if ever gusto mo ng malutong na tunog, picollo na gamitin mo.,. pero if gusto mo mag-ala pearl jam or soundgarden, pwede na mga 5.5 - 6 inch deep snares.. so depende talaga..

@byako21: I'd go for riff's advice about getting a deeper, bigger snare drum. A 14x5.5 would be a safe choice as a main snare drum...versatile yung configuration na yon. Yung piccolo appropriate sa low-volume applications or as an auxiliary snare drum. Ok yung tunog but in context baka matabunan.

As for the throw off, madali lang palitan yon. kailangan mo lang alamin yung hole to hole spacing ng throw-off...iba iba din kasi spacing

Mga sir,

I was holding my purchase of a JJ snare (which I have tried and loved) as well as an Omar Hakim Snare due to curiousity of the Ahead Snares.

Any feedback on those snares?

I see alot of great snares in this forum and we all know they are not cheap at all.

I play metal music (think Meshuggah and Disturbed) and I was hoping you can help me get a highly suitable snare for a budget of 20K.

Thanks!~
