Alto Saxophone for Beginners
« on: January 09, 2010, 08:01:07 PM »
Greetings.

My sister and I suddenly decided to learn and play musical instruments as part of our new year's resolution. She decided to learn violin while I decided to learn Saxophone. I find it unique and sexy though my friends told me that its hard to learn.

Since I am a beginner, I really have no idea where to buy a good saxophone. I've visited music stores and was surprised with its price (for a student like me). I also tried searching the net and only found few links which aren't really helpful.

Where can I buy a good saxophone? Hahaha.

So there, thank you for those who will reply to my question. :)

sa Raon, Quiapo. marami doon raging from P11,000 to P12,500. Most of the cheapest brand is Global or Davis. there are expensive ones too. Pero kung beginner ka lang, you can settle for Global or Davis. I have my first Sax bought there. Pretty good for start.

As a sax player & teacher..i don't recommend unknown brands, just an advice.. sayang ang pera mo.. save your money ..you can find one better than that which is on your price range..if you can wait for maybe two months...i'll be sending some US made & japan made student model horns ,have it fixed, repad, reconditioned and will sell for  maybe $350 -450...(magkano ba dyan?)..... kasi baka 3 sax ang ang kasya sa balikbayan box...

A DREAM COME TRUE ang christmas gift ko ay......ALTO SAXOPHONE WITH A NEW CELL PHONE PLUS LAP TOP! jackpot!

and bumili nga pala ako ng alto sax sa raon one month before ako bumili ng black trumpet! yung tatak nung sax ko is premiere pero naka chamba ako sa isang to super ganda eh silver finish at super ganda ng tunog! ilan ang premiere nila na sinubukan ko kaya lang ang hirap hipan grabe! nakaipon na tuloy ako ng mga instruments hahaha! now i'm playing to buy a yamaha saxophone yung tenor at soprano! any suggestions? salamat talaga sa diyos at pinagpala ako! talagang music na buhay ko eh!

May Conn po ba dito sa pinas or any cheap but great sounding sax?
Don't become obsessed with sounding like one particular player and sounding exactly like him.

My second alto sax is a Conn 24M. This is just a student model but the sound is ok, good intonation and response from all the keys. The negative side though is that this sax is essentially for players with longer fingers because the keys are more spread than other brands, especially the Asian made horns.
