how to extract audio from a video file?

sir i want to record or capture an audio from a movie file and insert it into a track which im currently  working on but i don't know how...

i need your help...

this can be done via cubase or nuendo.  i think it's also possible thru the use of other softwares like sound forge and sonar.

in cubase, under file there is an extract audio from video command so there :)  if u are extracting from VCD then you will have to rename the .DAT file as .MPG first (i did it using the DOS command "ren"), only then will you be able to extract its audio in cubase.

i have soundforge 6 and it extracts audio from an mpeg source..i want to extract an audio from a 3gp file...ung galing sa cell phone...someone told me to use 'total recorder'...haven't tried it yet...mamaya na cguro sa bahay...hehe

Try downloading Nokia software. I think it's called Multimedia Converter or something for 3gp files. It's free... all you have to do is register. Note that 3gp uses a highly compressed audio and video format, most likely with very low bitrates so don't even expect mp3 quality here. You might even have to do a live transfer while playing back the file; easily doable with some audio interfaces. Use 'What-you-hear' with 'blasters.

as a video editor myself, when i extract audio from a video source, i use my video editing tools.. i prefer using sony vegas because its easier to use than adobe premiere.. u just save it as mp3 then the videos aree gone.. :-D
