Anyone here have good results using Amp sim without cab sim going directly to guitar amp input?
Forget it. You're not working against the gear here. You're working against the physics of the amp's circuitry.
What has worked well however is to plug into the fx return jack where it is available. I turn off the speaker sim in this scenario as the amp's speaker already would be providing the coloration.
To deal with multiple gigging scenarios where you have no idea what amp will be at the venue, I made two sets of patches: one with amp sims (cab sim off) for use with fx loop equipped amps, and one without amp sims so I can go straight to the amp
input.
YMMV as this works well if you treat one patch as if it were one pedalboard. If you're the sort of person that moves from patch to patch within a song, you will need to be creative on setting up patches and set lists.
