Title: ★ CLUB USA ★ (american made guitars thread)
Post by: NUMBER (N)INE on June 22, 2014, 03:20:40 AM
in my undereducated and humble opinion, american products, be it guitars or amps, are worth every penny. worth the extra charge. builds are more consistent, attention to details is superb, paint, wood, frets, playability, tone/sound, everything is top notch. really high level of build quality. for me i pickup non-american guitar and they feel cheap. of course there are some exceptions. but american guitars have definitely spoiled me.

worth it? a resounding yes IMO.

My entry-level highway 1 tele :-)

My first tele was a Fernandes The Revival tele. I was happy with it until Freedomtom identified all the differences from a Fender tele. I sold it to save for a Fender.

The brand new MIA HW1 and used MIJ reissues were similarly priced when I was scouting for a new tele. The MIJ teles in the ads were great looking, but I know that MIA teles use American alder (ash for natural) while MIJs do not. I am also aware that both will benefit from a pickup upgrade, hence, that is not a buying factor. I can change the hardware and electronics on both, but I cannot change the wood of the MIJ. I bought the HW1 instead.

The finish was dull, but I made it shiny using a polishing compound. I did not expect the 3-saddle bridge to have good intonation, but only the bass E string was slightly off at the 12th fret. Action and workmanship was good. Just the same I brought it to Micsis for a professional setup, as I do with all my new guitars. The strings stay in tune. Knobs are smooth. The maple neck is lightly flamed. The neck pickup is good, but I find the bridge pickup lacking. I might change them to original vintage.

Kinda on the fence if we should still keep this thread here. We already have a stickied thread dedicated to gear pics, most of which are US-made. But carry on for now.

ganito din naranasan ko nung naka bill ako ng american guitar. biglang nagka bagong 'benchmark' at nag iba bigla pananaw ko sa ibang insturmento. it "spoils" all the other ones because they can't come up to this standard. pagkatapos nun mapapa judge ka na sa mga guitars by a new criteria.

"SPOILS"

^ Spot on to! hahaha even though peopls say "built by mexicans" in COrona California as a joke..hahaha

Ever since I got my very first  Gibson ( a lp special) as a gift..it was my first first hand experience with a guitar of market  value...I realized the feel and appeal are worlds apart from my then indonesian squire and 90's korean fender squire.. even my wife notices the huge differences and encourage me not to collect lower end guitars anymore...

Ive leveled up in a way (though not it a FM55 and other GAS Gods here with half a million peso guitars --but just a normal, average guitar lover with more disposable income now kind of way)...when I was talking with my dad, he also noticed how Ive leveled up from fernandos, RJ's Genesis series etc..during the 90's..which he got to see as he usually brought us to JB or Perfect pitch and yamaha...and a US guitar was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay impossible to acquire for me back then...

I wish I had though..as Id love to see the aging on them if I got one back then...

Now Ive gotten a liking for the good stuff... Ive got an LP Special, An american standard Strat and a Standard Lespaul..so far so good..hoping to get a tele or a jazzmaster..kung maka chamba...

hehe these things  they hold their value, age well, and easy to sell if ever..and holds some prestige in a way and are freaking icons of rock and roll!..

so go get one if you can...with the average income getting better and better...and deals from crescendo sale..(70k for a  LP Trad! Brand Freaking new), and the countless 2nd hand used guitars flooding the for sale forums at aamzing prices....ipon ipon lang..and you can get one...

MIJS, MIK's are good (which i love)..and you can find gems from indonesians or Chinas..but iba padin..

sabi nila "once you go black you won go back"--modified siguro is "Once you go "Standard" you wont go Back"

definitely Im not going back..haha

here they are!

(http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k508/gandydancer123/DSC_8351.jpg) LP Special Faded (My gateway drug guitar and happens to be my favorite of the 3)

(http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k508/gandydancer123/DSC_2892.jpg) Am Std Strat

abang abang ng tele, ES 335, Jazzmaster..

oooh I also have a CRATE Made in USA 60 watt amp...which I got from RJ Music during the 90's when they sold better stuff..and it still damn performs!

planning to sell them off though..and use the money to fund for a Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue

sa totoo lang. pag sobrang ingat mo din kasi sa gitara. hindi 100% ang playing mo eh. hehe

ouch!

My apologies bro.

I'm just speaking for myself.  I used to have those, I really didn't enjoy it. I tried to like it for the wrong reasons, and one was because because it's made in the US. Same with a Gibson Studio DC.

So far the US made guitars that I appreciated were the US Standards & AVRI from Fender, MusicMan in general and PRS.

The three times more expensive avri is definitely better than the hw1. My personal opinion is that the hw1 is good for its price when it was slashed down. Incidentally, the yupangco site lists the hw1 at around 45k again, so I have to take my opinion back :-)

Hi Roy how are you? I hope you're doing well.

Hmm...I had the HW1 for quite some time, and didn't like it. I just held onto it because it was MIA. In fact, it was my first MIA. After a year or more I disposed of it. It was only after another year that I acquired an AV and a Standard MIA. So that my opinion on that specific HW1 that I had was unbiased.

Of course, we all get what we pay for...but that's not always applicable since even high end models tend to have a rotten apple in a basket.

Same here, the HW1 is my first MIA guitar.Don't be surprised if I follow your footstep and get an AVRI in the future, if budget permits. The AVRI is actually my dream tele :-)

in my undereducated and humble opinion, american products, be it guitars or amps, are worth every penny. worth the extra charge. builds are more consistent, attention to details is superb, paint, wood, frets, playability, tone/sound, everything is top notch. really high level of build quality.

while i really admire your passion for usa made guitars and like you my dad had that same opinion,

in guitars nothing is ever consistent from fit, finish, attention to detail and tone

here's my american guitars,

(http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/ff338/bryanarzaga/069BAD1E-4DF6-472E-B1AF-81F30E6F3A70_zpshj9pdi33.jpg) (http://s537.photobucket.com/user/bryanarzaga/media/069BAD1E-4DF6-472E-B1AF-81F30E6F3A70_zpshj9pdi33.jpg.html)

i love each one of them, there's a pre-dran warrior isabella, a warrior knight, prs cu-22, 2008 gibson lp traditional, prs singlecut, PBC ibanez USRG and my carvin DC600 customshop

i used to have a suhr modern, benford custom firechief, bunker classic 57,other gibsons etc

anyway here's my carvin, it has a pencil mark under the clear coat

(http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/ff338/bryanarzaga/8DA00E52-B431-48CB-BEFA-91350CE3490A_zpsu5m1ouiq.jpg) (http://s537.photobucket.com/user/bryanarzaga/media/8DA00E52-B431-48CB-BEFA-91350CE3490A_zpsu5m1ouiq.jpg.html)

carvin offered to either redo or rebuild, but this guitar just sounds too good to let go, so we worked out a deal for my next build, which im very excited

here's my 2008 gibson, i traded my suhr for, it was the lightest among the two and yes i have all the eye candy stuff from gibson,i only noticed the routing when i was about to swap pickups

(http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/ff338/bryanarzaga/6DA9631A-3192-41CF-B8C0-FB70F5536C37_zpsluzi0zeh.jpg) (http://s537.photobucket.com/user/bryanarzaga/media/6DA9631A-3192-41CF-B8C0-FB70F5536C37_zpsluzi0zeh.jpg.html)

looks like they have a rough bit used in the machine or this mahogany was too wet when it was cut

the warrior was a custom order and has finish overlaps in the wood binding and headstock

with the suhr, i was constantly adjusting the neck and it was a pain, if i get another one it will be the roasted/baked necks

I hope it's just a rough bit, and they didn't bother to clean it up. If it's wet when cut, I hope they dried it up for good before assembly :-D

Yo Toybitz!

The es359 was a very recent addition. A good friend who is downsizing his flock knew I would find it hard to resist, it became a dream come true. A fullsized 335 would kill my poor back, but this size is more manageable. This one's got a pre-lumber raid ebony fretboard.

All I can say is, this thing is a beast. A visual and sonic head turner.

I liken it to being an SUV, while the EBMM is a luxury sports car.

I lurrrrv the EBMM neck! The feel and dimensions are just amazing, never expected to fall for it. I appreciate the nuances, like that barely tangible line that runs along the rear-center that can be felt by the thumb, &the 5 screws that make it sit tightly at the neck joint. She now has medium jumbo Jescar fretwire, installed by Micsis, making her even more pleasurable to play.

And yes! I would like that gunstock oil! We should meet up soon!

You make that box sound yummy, and am sure it is!

I remember kuya Arie saying if he was a shredder, an EBMM would be his tool. He just loves the neck.

Yeah, text text!

worth it ang american guitar in terms of quality, fit and tone. product of love kung baga. kaya they're expensive just like japanese guitars nowadays.
lalo na mga custom shop guitars. more toneful wood and hardware plus mas may attention to detail ang every guitar and mas experienced ang mga luthiers na gumagawa.

i wouldnt say its misfortune, people just f-up and thats going to be the norm, i've seen prs's with stain runs along the binding.

as long as you like playing it and it sounds good to your ears any guitar is worth.
