my co-guitarist always rants about this.. doesn't want to play anything else but the oldies. i felt it was pointless to argue.

music evolves, and there are always lemons in any era. if di mo maappreciate eh hindi ibig sabihin nun eh panget na agad ang kanta. not just your avenue... well exception to the rule ata ung "friday". lol

jeff beck even plays lady gaga... take that!

Maybe your looking at the wrong page..

For me, there are two kinds of music in the industry..
1st, the mainstream or basically the money makers, here all the songs are just haft baked..
no soul, its all just catchy melodies which is plain senseless..

Finally we have the undergrounds, or the artist that is less appreciated by the industry because they are so perfectionist.. because they stick to their own genre, because they have principles in making music, thus they failed to appeal to the mass media.. but the great thing is.. this guys are the true musicians, they write songs which is just so wonderfull, soul in every verse, a sense in every melodies.. this are the guys we need to start looking up to.. not the mainstream who headlines on MTV or MYX..

We need to start supporting the locals.. Stop the modernization of music.. Lets not forget our roots..

i assume di ka bumibili ng mga CDs sa mga record bars, kasi mainstream ang market nila?

i really wanna realize what you are seeing right now, just plain curiousity.

kasi andami kong kakilalang MAINSTREAM artists na contrasting dun sa opinion mo.

then i also salute the underground artists as well, andaming mababangis jan, pero.... sino mag dedecide kung sino ang TRUE ARTIST at sino ang HINDI (no soul)?

Ang common take kasi pag indie/underground, they have the guts and freedom to create their own sound, nothing to lose ang mentality unlike pag mainstream anjan na yung management (err royalty) factor - to make the music that the public wants and eventually buy, not the sound that you want to do (unless you really have a strong fan-base na kahit siguro anong music ang gawin mo e benta ka pa rin) As for the soul, depende yan sa musician, you can be soulful while being on the mainstream and also be really crappy when you're underground.  IMO, it's always a question of doing what you love.

Maraming lame underground bands, likewise there's tons of fairly mainstream artists who do things you wouldn't have thought of.

Weren't Sonic Youth or Shudder to Think on major labels? Locally, isn't Up Dharma Down fairly mainstream? Yeah, a lot of bad music today but there's tons to listen to if you can find it. Major or indie or whatever.

Kadalasan kasi ginagamit lang ang music for money and fame sa ngayon.. Wala na yung "passion" ika nga. Ako fan ako ng mga rock-metal genre.. di ko naa-appreciate yung mga bands ngayon.. lalo alternative na puro love songs, paulit-ulit na chords, tempo.. Wala na din creativity.

sa palagay ko tama ang mga tatay at nanay ko, tama din tayo ngayon, so yung sunod na generation mapapangitan din sa mga bagong kanta.

why is most music bad today?

i'll tell ya ... it's because dumb-a$$es who like them promote them, and dumber-a$$es who do not like them also promote them.

how about good music? apart from only a few people take the effort to check them out - they are hard to find, mind you ... why, you ask? because they are written by people who arent exactly physically attractive, or people who can't scream like banshees like those talent show winners, or people who are so concerned with their art, they have no marketing team.

good music is very rare and hard to find. and what do you do when you find good music? do you share them?! do you buy them?! hell no! you just download them for free, or keep them to yourselves, and you do not even write a thank you note to the band and composers who made them.

do you share them in your facebook wall? hell no! you know what you do?! you share justin bieber jokes! you diss nicki minaj, you make fun of One Direction, you do all of those and you have no idea that in the process you are promoting these so called- bad music!

so let me ask again, why is most music so bad today? you know the answer, it's because of you!

Sa tingin ko ang ibig sabihin ni TS eh yung nakahain na music sa mga radio and TV,   

Sa ngayon talaga wala kang aasahan kung limitado lang sa  radio at TV ang paghahanap mo ng songs...Marami kasing independent bands ang hindi kayang magbayad for exposure sa TV and radio ng kanta nila kaya wala kang pagpipipliang matino  kung hindi ka mag e effort maghanap. Ganun ang labanan ngayon sir, hindi na lumalapit basta ang banda sa label...

Tyaga tyaga lang sa paghahanap, (sa net ang simula, FB pages, forums at don't forget word of mouth and network of friends) sobrang dami lang dyan, hindi ko nga lang alam kung anu taste mo kaya hindi ako specific mag suggest. Hinihintay ka lang nilang pakinggan mo sila. Pwede kang magsimula sa sig ko sa baba kung trip mo medyo maingay

i will try to scratch the surface of IncX's rant to reveal the gem IN it.

IMHOU music aint bad today, its just that PEOPLE who used to support great bands and not so great bands have different sets of priority now, their time for mosh and breakdancing gradually faded.
the fire in their hearts who used to burn concert halls is still there, but the new gen refused to light their torch.

then the next gen who instead of exploring the great rhythm of pinoy  music industry (watching gigs, purchasing the merchandise, posting grateful comments etc) arent there to support,
maybe because they missed the train while waiting for a jetplane to come.

To the youth nowadays these catchy, often one hit wonder acts maybe cool. Ever watched "midnight in paris"?... basically, we all have wet dreams of the past..golden ages ng 30 y/o ay 90s..sa 40 y/o ay 80s..or just anything except contemporary. But in my honest opinion, we all have our faults. Di ba natin naiisip na MP3 has totally ruined the music industry? Some musicians still share their music because it is their passion, but they still have the right to make money out of it. Kasalanan nga ng record companies to overprice their albums pero ngayon libre na ang lahat. Would we rather download or buy sa record bar? Since artists cannot make money, why bother spending sa studio..may pro tools naman..( another suggestion: Dave Grohl docu: sound city). Its a vicious cycle which we are all part of. No pointing fingers..cant have your cake and eat it...peace!
