"Audiophile" DACs vs recording interfaces.
« on: October 24, 2015, 01:29:50 PM »
Has anyone done playback shootouts between similarly priced "audiophile" DACs targeted at consumers, and the recording interfaces most of us recording professionals and musicians here use? I usually favor the latter for a number of reasons, like signal level for example (unbalanced -10 db vs balanced +4db). But I'd like to know if consumer units have any advantage for casual home use.

I own a mastering-grade converter and a "consumer-grade" audio interface but the differences are not normally audible unless one is playing-back audio with first-rate speakers or headphones.
