Audiophile and JB should be able to help you with Tama and Pearl cast hoops. Just be ready to shell out big dough.

Imho, its not worth it. The way to go is to start with a kit with cast hoops as a standard feature.

Thanks Joseph, I just heard kasi that die-cast hoops have internal muffling and i think that's the solution i need to deaden the overtones without o rings or duct tape. haha!

nope, die cast dont muffle. it evens out tension across the head that makes tuning easier and more consistent but overtones will still be present.

and if muffling is your concern:

duct tape = 50 pesos each
generic die cast hoop top for 10" tom = 40 dollars each

its a very expensive muffling solution dont you think?

haha! right on! Sige, i guess die-cast hoops are out of the question, kasi i used to think it makes the drum sound tighter and fuller. haha.

Proper tuning and specific head selection will solve your problem and definitely not the cast hoops. I myself do not like to use muffler rings or other dampening mediums. Just keep on experimenting and your bound to get it right.

Re. Die cast hoops, I only personally prefer them on snares to give that added rim shot power plus the durability and evenness of head tension. Though I have not actually owned any I have tried a few.

sir question lang.

is remo pinstripe head possible to tune without overtones? and without using o-rings? di ba depende rin sa heads na naglelessen ng tones

Another thing to consider...  Some drums do not sound or perform well with die-cast hoops.  So think about it first before making a decision to purchase.

In this case, is there anyone here who has tried mounting die-cast hoops on Gretsch Catalina drums?

And that's right, die-cast hoops are a different breed of animal, compared to industry-standard triple-flanged hoops.  It has its advantages, in terms of tuning consistency and sound (especially with rimshots and cross-sticks).  And yes, die-cast hoops do not have built-in/internal muffling.

And lastly...  Die-cast hoops are not cheap.

OT: Yes they are. With proper tuning you can practically achieve anything.

single flange
never heard or had one before. mabilis makaubos ng stick

wood hoops
my new personal favorite. kung payat tumunog yung snare mo, ibig sabihin head lang naririnig mo at hindi yung shell, maglagay ka nito kahit sa batter side lang at tyak na madadagdagan ng low freq/bass/ooomph yung snare mo. tataba yung tunog. gaganda yung crack. sasarap yung side stick. hindi na masakit sa tenga ang rimshot
