Custom Hybrid Guitar
« on: May 08, 2007, 05:23:43 PM »
Hi,

I'm thinking of having a custom guitar built.  Possibly, I'll have the Elegee guys do it.  However, my problem is this, I'd like to have an active Electric Acoustic Pickup installed similar to the Parker Fly Guitar or the Ovation Hybrid.  Can lead me to the right direction on this?  Been trying to search online for the kinds of pickups or the electronics I would need for this.  I'd buy it here if it's available but I wouldn't mind having it sent to my sister in the states if it's not.  Thanks in advance brethren.

First of, what (magnetic) pickups do you want?

Then for the piezo, try fishman electronics. Like the fishman powerbridge (TOM) or vintage trem.

other companies like shadow also cater to such things
Get Wylde.

Chong: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/Pickups:_Guitar,_electric/Graph_Tech_Ghost_Pickup_System_for_Guitar.html

Since it picks up sound from each individual saddle, I can imagine that you can even mix different sounds with this... as in one sound for each string.  Just play with wiring, I guess.

ok...so what you guys are telling me is that there is no one pickup that does all that...but instead, it's a mix between coiled pups and a piezo system...the ovation hybrid has a blend knob too....so you can use that knob as a selector kinda thing?  hmmmm....thanks for the info

actually, the ovation hybrid inspired me alot....it looks beautiful...however, as much as I'd want it, I wnt to modify it a little.  I like the body, except for the tele like cutaway on the top part...I want it more rounded...similar to a les paul...maybe with a bigsby trem...

inigo...

I just checked the graph tec parts.  Now I'm taking my gas to a totally different level.  It says there that you can have a hybrid acoustic, electric, and even midi guitar all from the same preamp and saddle.  This just puts it over the top.  My laway drop just went from my waist to my knees.

how about these hybrids?

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Yamaha-AEX-1500-Electric-Guitar?sku=500070

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Godin-Montreal-Electric-Guitar?sku=511882

ung godin nasubukan ko nung last time akong pumunta sa tom lee. grabe ang pagka versatile ng guitar na un. Pero kung magpapacustomize ako gagayahin ko ung yamaha. I like the idea of a jazz guitar with a piezo system 8-)

nice...ganda nga nung yamaha....I've tried Godins...A friend of mine has one..lupt ng versatility...

gusto ko eto na...tell me what you think...

so with the help of the graph tech saddle, meron na akong acoustic sound, blendable with the magnetic pickups, and dahil dun sa preamp ng graphtech, pwede rin ang MIDI,

So midi, acoustic, and electric na siya.  tapos, in terms of the pickups, I want to use the seymour duncan pups nd pwede convertible from humbecking to single coil because I love the fender sound...tapos may blend knob na lang siya...

here's a pic of what I had in mind, it follows the shape of a dreadnought guitar, with the features of a les paul, and features of a 72 tele(actually dun ko nakuha yung idea nung pickguard...

by the way, what do you guys think, should it be semi hollow?  natural finish lang yung body with a maple neck, tapos black or turtle pickguard...I'm undecided pa if I want the cutaway to be that steep or follow a typical cutaway for dreadnought acoustics....

opinions opinions opinions please...

f-hole like this (that is if you could consider it as an f-hole) http://www.rickenbacker.com/model.asp?model=330 but make it really unique.

yung cut away ok naman though im more inclined to a cut away like those on es-335s. pero unique pa rin.
