Jazz Singers
« on: September 09, 2007, 12:09:21 PM »

Hello everyone.

Just wanna ask, what makes a Jazz vocalist different from that of the other genre?

Aside from that meron pa bang ibang basehan?
So Be It.

Timing is more important and more crucial

1. pundasyon sa blues, at
2. kwento sa buhay
Soli Deo Gloria.

First prerequisite: insanity.

Sa hirap ng buhay ng jazz musician, you gotta be just a little bit crazy to be one.

tama 'to pre, sigurado iba trabaho ko pag nandyan ako sa pilipinas, walang opportunity dyan pra sa mga normal na artists eh even for the good ones (i think). siguro pa showband-showband na lang ang tugtog ko, eventhough that's fun too, i don't really like the idea cause musicians were artists not jukeboxes. anyway, excuses for the sentiment

jazz singer ma EMO at ma emote, madamdamin at hitik sa karanasan. sensitive, matalas tenga, improviser at arranger on the spot. bordering on being a perfectionist sa pagkuha at paghanap ng masarap at mas masarap na mga tono,...can reinvent a song in infinite ways.

totoong jazz singers mukhang flip hahahha, di nag papa-cutesy sa stage kase may sariling mundo pag kumakanta ...pero kabit sa kasama niyang musiko.

ang jazz singer pag walang tugtog, nangangati for jamming parang adik. :-D

hehe.. yun yata yun jazz face na tawag nila kapag tumutugtog  :-D

so aside from being really insane kailangan mukhang insane rin. naku. vain ako. di pwedeng mukhang flip. wala na. di na ako magiging jazzista.

Hi, Narsdrums.  :-) Welcome to Philmusic.

Please take note that "Better Days" is NOT jazz.

Mike Francis, Toto, David Benoit are NOT jazz.

Please qualify what you mean when you say jazz.

Billie Holiday, Carmen McRae, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Frank Sinatra (to a certain extent).

Take note, hindi kita inaaway, ha.

Oks yung dalawang 'yon.

Dami diyan, brad. Libot-libot lang kung saan-saan. Tanong-tanong. Nood-nood.

DIANA KRALL!

Younger jazz singers such as Norah Jones and Renee Olstead are great too.

and I love Ray Charles. I think he's jazz bordering on blues. Am I right?

Joyce Garcia - although i wouldn't say Jazz siya, if you're really looking for straight-Jazz singers.. pero kung better days and time and tide ang pondo, champion yun.
(Lagi kong ini-indoctrinate, kaso kabado parin to sing Jazz tunes)
Ria very good voice quality, although pwede bang Jazz siya? Hmm.. Never heard her sing straight Jazz. In fairness Aliyah Parcs (not sure sa spelling) has good intonation at ganda maglaro.. hmm..  :-D

if you wanna see insanity/crazy while singing, look for Stella. :-D pero she's very good.  :-D

Yep diana krall, i just love her. Simple, i like simple. Renee Olstead rin is good, pero sobrang bata pa pala nun.. very good. Pero si Norah Jones, i always fall asleep kapag nakikinig sa kanya. i mean, no offense.  :-D

So if they're not jazz, Better Days is ______? Benoit is ______? Toto I agree hindi talaga jazz yan. Mike Francis, I never listened to him really so it doesn't matter.

Nagtatanong lang po kasi I've always thought of Better Days as pop with jazz flavor. Meanwhile I've always classified Benoit as jazz, so if he is not jazz, how do I classify him? Smooth "jazz"? IMO, these may not be like the "jazz" of the singers that you referred to but still their music is somehow derived from it.
