Title: Martin Nievera
Post by: toybitz on January 19, 2008, 02:20:34 AM
When I was in high school, i liked this guy...

Nowadays...he's living on singles that are remakes and covers......what the hell happened to creativity?  songwriting?

Correct me if i'm wrong, pero dati na style na nila yan. Kahit nung bago pa lang sila uso na remakes and revivals sa kanila. Silang magkakabatch yan, Ogie, Regine, Pops, etc. etc. It's just that nowadays, hindi na mabili sa atin mga musikero yang ganyan na style tsaka sa dami na remakes and revivals nauulit-ulit na lang mga kanta. Pero in fairness, makakatsamba rin sila ng mga albums na original mostly composed by Mr. Ogie Alcasid. or other pinoy great composers. I wonder, si Gary V. lately lang sya rin nagcover.

Actually I'm mainly surprised with the news that Toybitz even liked Martin Nievera in high school... ewww!

overrated si martin nievera para sa akin.

ayun lang.

He is a good singer, kaso, he's been doing nothing but songs from other artist lately, nalilito tuloy yung ibang nakikinig ng music, and would mistake someone else's song to be martin's song.

Case in point, an acquaintance once mistook Kenny Loggin's song FOREVER for a martin nievera song.

Ok lang sya sa akin, minsan nagiging OA nga lang sa iba,...for being comedian,talkative...at siguro gesture.

siguro dahil broadway style at inaadapt nya dito sa pinas...

Obsolete..hahaha..

Sabagay, ung new abum nya parang nawala na ung old vibe ni Martin..compared to his rendition of Be My Lady and his tagalog songs..nawala na ung sincerity at depth..naging overacting na lang in my opinion kasi when I listened to his Because of You version, hindi maganda arrangement....at ung boses nya e naging flat na..low & boring.

so..sisihin mo yung producer cguro :-)

if he was 15-20 years younger... he'd actually make a pretty good vj.

he's quite the entertainer.

pero yeah... stop with the covers man. geez.

is it so hard to write your own freakin' song?! i'd hate to think na 10years from now na a good percentage of our local artists have been MYMP'd!

grace, I'm sorry I'm not familiar...

Jed and Gary had a version of Hard Habit?  hahaha!

sorry talaga..

but if you ask me...I like Gary better. Yes, he could be doing covers..but not as much as Martin.  And he does covers of christian artists because he likes to remind us of the message of those songs.

plus, ang bilis magcover ni Martin ng mga kantang hindi pa laos..

tulad nung You Are My Song by Regine, sandali lang eh biglang may rendition na siya. tsk tsk tsk

I think I heard this version on radio, he sounds like he is a bit flat on the tune..kinda irritating.....or baka si jed yung narinig ko, sorry to those who are into this kind of music, I just don't really listen to philippine pop radio...

Never liked Martin Nievera. But I hear his son Robin Nievera is a pretty good guitar player in a John Mayer-esque way. Anyone hear him play?

really?  Robin?

I know "he" wanted to learn to play guitar.  I didn't know he already could and might be already good at it.

I had the chance to record with Martin Nievera around 1996 for a commercial jingle. He was not that perfect in recording we still had to edit in protools. But nonetheless he's still a good singer.

rare din yata yung good singer w/ good "ears" in our mainstream pool.

singers like sarah geronimo, champ of hale, rico, etc...(count me in too. - no good in singing, poor hearing pa!)

Martin is undoubtedly the best male singer/ balladeer in our country. Way better than Gary V., in fact. A lot of celebrities in the States were totally floored by Martin when they watched the fellow in his Las Vegas stint.
