Jaguar/Jazzmaster/Mustang/Jagstang/offset waist guitar thread!
« on: November 08, 2007, 10:49:09 PM »
so ive searched the forum but still no one has yet to post pics of these beauties. i recently bought an MIJ Mustang in blue and im pretty happy with it. the trem needs a little getting used to and the tuners bother me (might change em later) but all in all its a pretty and "non-mainstream" guitar.

ill post pics this week. for everyone else, show your "offset waist guitar" porn!

i'm assembling one out of Warmoth parts, pero the only connection to the offset waist guitars is the Jazzmaster body shape, the rest were "mongrelized" from other axes.  Does that count?

building one this summer with jazzmaster 60's era specs plus some mods that I am doing. i am using an ebony fretboard instead of rosewood and I am using mahogany instead of alder with a maple neck. i am also replacing the jazzmaster bridge with a tone pros stoptail because those jazzmaster bridges tick me off with their intonation problems and i'd rather not have to deal with my intonation going to sh#t during a gig. pups are custom wound lollar p-90s in a jazzmaster casing. paint job will be similar to Gibby 50's spec gold tops with the greenish hue when tilted sideways and will be on the body and face of the headstock. neck finish will be an amber tint with a satin finish.

i bought the body and neck blanks from a stewart mac sale. since the cutting process of the body is nothing special (you can do it with a template and router), I will most likely just post pictures of the finishing process since the paint application is a bit tricky from what i've seen in local luthiery shops because it is very similar to applying sparkle paint. hopefully, this will help the local guys in tackling their next guitar project. i've never applied goldtop type paint so it'll be an interesting process.

Sir, could that (gain shortage) be attributed to the floating trem? That's what i noticed too...

Oh my  :-o look at that Mustang and Los' Jazzmaster  :-D

This is my humble offering, a 65RI Jaguar CIJ 95 version

With my Yamaha SuperoKnroller 69 Strat

When i was on a hunt for "The Big Cat" i wanted a Lake Placid Blue sana, but this  came and i got it nonetheless, from a non forumite. I love the general feel it brings when i play her  :-D

The only thing i didn't like much about the Jag is the saddles  :-( where the strings are arrayed on a screw like saddle and it's too shallow that the strings jump off of position when strummed aggressively. Tried and still trying to look for Mustang saddles to fix the problem.

@ Nickson:

Sir, what TuneOmatic bridge type did you install? Does it have the same radius as the stock ones? And lastly, are you selling the stock saddles you replaced? PM me if you are sir  :-D I'm leaning towards this idea that's why (TOM replacement), mustang saddles are hard to find that's why  :-( I'm checking the TOM bridges from Allparts and various ones now. Richard (Bossingboss) tried to order for me once but no success.

The other thing pretty hard for these off-waist beauties is looking for a hardshell case to fit it  :-D

I got the TOM bridge for a VERY EXPENSIVE price of P350 in sta. mesa.
