For blues, its either you plug in straight into a tube amp and turn everything up (non-master volume tube amp) to overdrive it so to speak, or use an overdrive pedal, say an Ibanez TS9 or equivalent, or use an overdrive pedal to boost the amp....

Other than that, hmmmmm anything goes naman for me.... A touch of chorus, or delay to fatten the sound....

Just my two cents anyway  :-D

md2? mega distortion yun, right? Too heavy yung sound niya for me, I'd stick to ODs.

IMO a tubescreamer or a Boss BD-2 will be good on playing blues.

You don't even need to use an effects pedal; you can just plug straight into a clean amp. Listen to Anson Funderburgh, for example. He's from Dallas, Texas, but his strat tone is so clean, and his licks are to drool for. Jummy Vaughan  is another example. So not all Texas blues is in the cliched overdriven SRV style.

That works too, for me hanapin ko lang sa amp yung saktong volume na malapit na siya mag breakdown then lalaruin ko nalang volume knob to get a slightly overdriven guitar sound.

I think Jimmy Vaughan uses a pedal though, I seem to recall having watched PG's rig rundown and he uses a trem pedal.

IMO it sounds too heavy for blues.

Have you heard of poppa chubby? Although he doesn't use an MT-2 he has quite a heavy tone.
But he does play a lot of hendrix which kinda explains a lot.

JB doesn't use distortion, he uses fuzz or matapang na klase ng OD

Was it JB or EJ who said that all his pedals' controls are at 12 o 'clock?
ganda din dirt ni JB paired with his marshall.

BTW TS, what type of blues your playing ba?
Title: Re: Most common guitar effects for blues

If for the really old blues, you can simply use an acoustic guitar. (Guess that would make you curious and search some really old stuff :) That is if you don't know about them already).

Most common sa blues ngayon is overdrive talaga.

For me, hindi ako marunong sa style ng mga yun haha. I use Crybaby Wah, MI Audio Blues Pro Overdrive, and Chorus (just using Amplitube for now, still confused on what chorus pedal to get).

It depends kasi sa type ng blues that you are playing, dun na magkakatalo-talo sa type ng effects na gagamitin and also sa feel mong tones na papalabasin. iba iba kasi talaga kaya dapat you should know your style din or kahit papaano yung feel mong palabasin na tunog its your feel kasi talaga. :)

Kung gusto mo ng stomps, there's a lot of ODs out there that you might adore.

if you are into Blues Rock= Overdrives/Fuzz is good
if you are into standard clean Blues=good fenderish amp on clean mode, ala B.B King

I'd recommend those touch-sensitive ODs so you can accent some notes while playing. Add a touch of slapback delay and reverb to taste.

ganda din dirt ni JB paired with his marshall.

It was JB, he said that here:

+1 doon sa touch/volume sensitive na OD pedals.

Pero going back to the topic, I use light compression > OD > clean OD > Plate reverb > a touch of tremolo (my not-so-secret-weapon anymore).

Yung tremolo, ika nga ni Joe Bonamassa sa video "adds a lot of soul". For me, parang tipong na-eemulate niya yung parang umiiyak or humihikbi na singer. :)

Try listening to feelin bad blues by ry cooder for a better illustration ng sinasabi ko. :)

My frankencaster thru a vox pathfinder 15r... for some solos and hard rythm i use my digitech bad monkey.

great for blues... syempre iba pa din ang cranked non master tube amp and vintage guitar combo...

pero happy na ko sa setup ko

I wish that monkey was a true bypass though

Sa blues its more about the sound or message than the tone: texas blues, delta blues, etc. Songs that come from the heart. :)

Anyways if i were to play blues id use: od, fuzz, wah.

Blues is about simplicity. Plug straight into an amp and dial the gain to your liking. OD Pedal for that boost in solos! After that it's up to you how to feel the Blues :)

friend of mine who i like to consider as a blusier guitarist than myself just brings his guitar to a gig, and plugs it right in - no matter what the venue and it's not even a blues guitar - he uses a yamaha rgx...

on my part i prefer using my lp special because the zebra pup + wah combo sounds heaps more osam than my obl's will ever be pag dating sa blues / blues rock...

Share ko lang.  on my end of the blues/blues-rock or what not tone...a clean amp at near break up level + an OD pedal (TS9 or Maxon is nice) at mild levels + a wah pedal at the open or high position + yer guitar using the neck pick-up.  Personally... it nails down the Razorback'esque ala Ripoll sound for me... The rest is just a matter of volume and tone knob sensitivity and of course...the bluesy feel. Hope that helps.

May nakipag-trade sakin before ng Digitech Bad Monkey.

The badmonkey sounds great although it does cut off some highs when turned off, to my ears at least. Other inexpensive options are danelectro cool cat drive and cool cat transparent overdrive.

A wee bit of gain, sustain, compression, and/or grit for slightly dirty blues. Used sparingly, most any low gain OD pedal can give you several of those characteristics.

I need to have reverb with blues. Or probably delay dialed to sound more like reverb. It just completes me/my tone(even when I play by myself). When provided with an amp with no reverb and since I am too lazy to buy a reverb pedal since I got obsessed with od/dirt pedals I sometimes use an analog delay pedal to get a reverb-like sound. guitar-od-reverb-amp
