Can you really blame a band for sounding like another band kung yung bandang yun naman talaga ang main or isa sa mga main influences nila? Example Chicosci tunog foreign (guys, that was just an example, I honestly just want to know what you think. lets not make this into another chicosci thread or a debate against foreign sounding bands thread :-D There are plenty of those here na) Thank you! :-) :-) :-)
In Addition:
Does it make it right if they admit na yun nga habol nilang tunog?
Similarly, Does it make them the bad guy if they deny it? (Example, Orange and Lemons (Chandelier by The Care) and Cueshe (that Silverchair song, i forget the name)

I think I get what you're saying but just so i know i'm on the same page, can you clarify?
Bands will always carry their influences. and if it's a bit too much, that's when the listener (and maybe copyright laws) will react. How they deal with it, what their original intentions are, and how they react if the negative attention happens is the key to seeing what it was really all about.
Personally, as long as they don't plagiarize, then the whole idea is up to interpretation by each and every person. Cover bands, joke bands and tribute bands are usually exempt from all this.

Now, in Sessionroad's case, they were made to be the bad guys because coy intially made it that he was just "sampling" from superdrag's "Garmonbozia".:

I know sampling still needs permission to the recording label & the artist. sa mga banda bihira ito (sampling). As a listener ang alam kong paggamit ng sampling is... sa isang part lang nung song yung gagamitin as "sample".. (let say "every breath you take" ni sting yung sample (intro part)) yun lang dapat ang gagamitin... then may sarili pa ring tono yung song... ginagamit lang yung sample as fill in part.
Take this comment from the fan:
"on leaving you... honestly, on my opinion... lumalabas pa rin na rip off sya.
on my observation sa leaving you (actually di na kailangan... kasi obvious naman lahat), binagalan nyo lang yung tempo ng garmonbozia, fit in different lyrics sa stanza... then sort of almost the same chorus...

Garmonbozia "I'm tired of dying here alone, But you can set me free"

I don't mind sound-a-likes. But ripoffs piss me off.
Like, Nirvana sounds a lot like The Posies, just grittier. The lyrics are different, though. Nirvana is a legend. The Posies isn't.
Another is White Zombie, sounding a lot like The Melvins. Ginaya yata ni Rob Zombie yung boses niya kay Buzz Osbourne e. But I think White Zombie's easier to listen to.

yung sa kaso ng iba, buti sana nung inamin nilang katunog nila yung *insert band/artist here* eh mas maganda yung kinalabasan eh, kaso lalong kumorny yung tunog nila..nakakadismaya..

sa pinoy na banda na sounds alike ... ika nga sa nu rock awards 09..ganda ng sinulat ni francis brew... most of it "philippine music" borrowed it from the west.. da influence of the west weighs heavily on our culture artistically.. but the form is only secondarily to the essence ,"the heart ". kung ang pinoy na banda sounds alike sa foreign n songs at least give them a chance na pakinggan sila dahil may essence ang mga kanta nila .. sample lang ng pinakikinggan namin.. the jerks .. francis m.. the wuds... mga kanta nila talagang may sounds alike pero ang titindi ng mensahe kaya sarap pakinggan at maganda i apply ang kanta nila sa buhay natin...sounds alike but it really moves you 8-) apir.

oo tama... ganun naman talaga lahat, most of the times you cant start from ZERO... pero minsan may mga originals din talaga na manggagaling sayo, para sakin.. wala akong paki kung hawig sa yung reach ng pale fountain sa Alapaap... mas maganda kaya yung messag ng alapaap, pati arreglo... so panalo.

siguro nagiging katunog nila dahil yun yung main influence nila, pero siguro normal lang yun kasi sa blues band madalas magamit yung I IV V progression, possible na magsing tunog yung magagawang orig song..mahirap din gumawa ng orig song na wala ka manlang influences..minsan dimo sadya yung ginawa mong riff may katunog pala. :-D

Ok lang mga rip-off or mag-kasing tunog ng mga influences nila. Ang masama dun sa mga artist or band na sikat na nag rip-off ay pinag-yayabang nila na kanila yun at original yun. dapat sana lagay man lng dun sa album nila na give credits or thanks for their influences for this song. pero wala....

Wala naman nagblame ng band, nagbibigay lang sila ng examples ng banda na may kantang katunog ng iba pang kanta, whether intentionally or subconciously or coincidence lang talaga! Walang nag bash or nag blame, kaya yung reply mo that all bands has "haters" eh malayo na! Yun yata ibig niya sabihin kaya "off-topic" ka daw.. :-D

aun nga e, "can you really blame a band because they sounds like?" - tinutukoy nya ung mga taong nababadtrip sa bandang may katunog. hahahaha sabe ko lang hindi naman maiiwasan yang badtrip sa banda, hindi mawawala un. even legend bands have had haters.
