i use entry level cans and iems
altec lansing im716 made by etymotic research for altec. theyre pretty transparent, vocals are clear, and it has a bass switch for modern music. theyre in ears so they cancel out outside noise. good isolation
grado sr-80 with senn pad mod.
pretty good for entry level audiophile cans, frequencies are well isolated, you can close your eyes and point where each instrument in an orchestra are, clear vocals, very tight audible bass, sibilance on the treble. the mod opend up the treble more and improved the overall soundstage dramatically. heck, these foams can even convert px100 and 200 to very good entrylevel audiophile headphones
i used to use this modded numark cans, i custom made the woodies
but i stopped using close back , its too boomy , voice are nasal and causes fatigue easily. i'll only go to close back if theyve concocted something that will have clear vocals and treble
btw, power hungry headphones just suck when they're unamped. even in-ears. try yours amp'd and you'll hear the difference.
