O-Rings, Moongels, Evans Min-E-MADs, etc...  You can even improvise with duct tapes, cloth, foam, etc...

Personally, I prefer not to use mufflers on drums.  I want the drum's open, natural voice to come out.  I apply mufflers only when needed, or as a last-resort, desperate option.

Thanks

You can still physically play a rimshot.  Na-a-affect lang yung rimshot sound ng snare drum mo most probably because of the muffler.

A snare drum that I would  recommend? But if you want a versatile snare drum, you can never go wrong with a quality, well-made 14" snare drum with a 5-6.5" depth, either wood shell (for a warmer, full-bodied sound) or metal shell (for more projection and cut).

Uhmm... pano po yung tunog ng more projection and cut? Yung full-bodied sound parang mejo gets ko eh.. Thanks very much..

Another question...
Thanks..

Projection... It will have the ability to produce a loud volume.  In particular, kakailanganin mo ito sa mga malalaking venues, for example.

Cut...  It will be heard over layers and layers of sound.  For example, kapag tumutugtog ka sa rock band, with amplified electric instruments, thick-sounding guitar effects, etc., your snare drum should be able to cut through.

Lugs... Korek.  Lugs nga yon.

Hahaha!  I was hoping that somebody else would contribute an explanation.  Anyway, warm and full-bodied are much more abstract terms for me, but I'll try to define it based on my understanding...

Warm... Not too bright & not lacking it.  Just right; something that hits the spot.  Like a beautiful-sounding vintage ride cymbal.

Full-bodied... Having enough richness of desirable sound qualities.  Relate it with liquor - "It has that full-bodied flavor..."

Mas mahirap i-define ang mga ito.  It's like love... feel... groove...  You know what it is, but it's quite hard to put it into words.  Hehehe I hope somebody can come up with better, more convincing definitions.

You get what you pay. Cheap snare, cheap sound. I suggest buy the Sonor 2005 or 3005 snare from JB music. i think 2005 is 6k and 3005 is 8k.

Agree. Long term investment din yan, tulad ng ibang musical instrument.

hops, teka lang... hindi mo ini-specify kung what type of snare ang gusto mo... ung maple ba na makapal (sorry la ako formal education kaya describe ko na lang) or yung manipis na picollo (tama ba? yun ang naririnig ko na pangalan nya eh. Meron pa choices yun, kung wood type or metal type. dami pagpipiliian. tsaka kung ano klase skin pa is another choice. i suggest you get evans for skins kasi ayos rin ang tunog nya and the longevity. depende na nga lang sa type of music mo.

Eto nanaman tayo sa pagtono ng snare :) Regarding snare tunings what is the ideal nowadays? I realize it's a matter of taste but what is the ideal or hip sound for most playing situations?

Is there some site somewhere with mp3s of "proper" snare sounds?
