Sad to say, Eddie Munji III (who recorded and arranged the seminal album Pinoy Jazz) became a junkie and just dropped off the map. He wasa darn good guitarist but a better arranger, wrote real good charts.

The Pinoy Jazz Vol. 1 record came out around 1973 I think. Where can I find a copy of that album?

What about Johnny Alegre of Affinity? Aren't all those guys that have been mentioned,  Tots Tolentino, Elhmir Saison and Koko Bermejo, members of his band Affinity? Including Colby Dela Calzada.  I wish I could get their CD here so I can listen to their stuff. I'm surprised Johnny is not mentioned in this forum at all considering I think he's one of the best jazz guitar players in the Phils.

Does anybody remember what local music award the late Lito Molina disagreed with when the title "Best Male Jazz Performer" was given to Rico J. Puno?  :?

i can look it up, but i remember it had to do with the song "Kartada 10".
it was a funk jazz/groove all right, but Mr. Molina was very livid with this
choice and disagreed and promptly had a minor stroke, right there and
then at that comitee hearing....
