i got autographs from both the PICC and Music Museum gigs too. during the time of the music museum thing, gary novak also played for the elektrik band II (which had members that were way less popular than the superstars they replaced, but eric marienthal was still there). not too long after that, the dude (novak) was already playing for alanis.

both concerts left me with the same feeling -- jealousy for those who understood and actually enjoyed them. haha. i did enjoy their music much later on...

Wala lang. Personal lang pong panlasa.

I certainly respect Chick and hold his skill & accomplishments in high regard.

It's just...

Powtah, legendary monster alien senyor nga 'yan, eh.

The other night i was watching the Remembering Bud Powell concert.

It was one of the straight ahead bop from Chicks (for me), with less of his trademark 'Latin-y' lines.

Nevertheless, malupet pa rin. Christian McBride on bass, Roy Hanes on drums, Wallace Roney (Blue Trumpet! :-D), Kenny Garrett and Joshua Redman on alto and tenor saxes.

Talking about Chick Corea. Return to Forever will be reuniting for a tour this coming summer. AND they're playing here in the Ottawa Jazzfest.  :-D :-D

Here's the link to the announcement.

http://www.chickcorea.com/player_temp.php

Here's where I'll see them:

Right now between Return to Forever and Steely Dan (Montreal Jazz Fest) I think I'll go for the RTF concert.

Chits, how much are the RTF tickets for the Ottawa Jazz Fest?  The Steely Dan MJF ticks are expensive!  Would have wanted both acts to drop by Toronto, pero buti lang I got to see SD when they swung by Buffalo last year as part of their world tour.

The tickets for RTF IN Ottawa are not out yet. I'll let you know as soon as I find out. And yeah the SD tickets would cost me $300+ for 2, then if I include the hotel, etc.. around $500+. A bit too much for ONE concert.  I should've gone to the SD show in Toronto. :(

Both SD and RTF tho are going to be at the MJF. Tickets for RTF (June 27) are from $62.50 to $99.50. For SD (Jul 1 and 2) are from $89.50 to $139.50.

galing si chick corea!

i like his fusion records like where have i kniown you before at hymn to the 7th galaxy. Then his band origin. Galing nya. With return to forever, he has the funk and the groove even with the chaos of jamming. Dun sa akoustik - origin galing swabe! he is innovative, inventive and experimental. DI ko pa nga lang masakyan mashado ung eye of the beholder pero frank gambale is great!

I was at the Acoustic Band's press conference at the Mla. Hotel, had the chance to talked w/ Chick himself for more than an hour...I was corresponding w/ him when I was in college, nangu-ngulit kng paano adliban yng Humpty Dumpty, 500 Miles high & of course yung Spain... ( wala pang e-mail nuon! ), pro nagre reply naman siya explaining theory & jazz impov, He was one of the nicest musicians I've met... (unlike Miles who will scream at you). I gave Chick an Egyptian papyrus painting of King Tut as a gift, while he autographed my Yamaha SHS-10 portable keyboard. He's such a great person, even asked me to convoy w/ his entourage goin to PICC. We were at the band's sound check, we had photo ops, I was even horsing around w/ Weckl & Patitucci at the backstage, food was catered, there was booze... Chick was a chain smoker while Dave & John are health buffs.

during the concert, I was at the first row & all of the "senyor" guys of jazz we're behind me...hahahaaa!!! I even went on stage after the encore piece & gave high fives w/ the band while the lights went up in full view of the audience, hahahaaaa... lagay-lagay ang mga senyor ika nga...  some of the local guys asked me to invite the band for a jam at calesa bar...hot na hot c mar dizon maka jam sina chick, pero mas gusto nila mag ikot sa "tourist belt" sa Mabini w/ their sponsors... some more "Kodakan" w/ the band... I had my old RTF albums signed by Chick... a-apply sana kong roadie sa entourage nila eh...ganun ako ka fanatic kay Chick, may illusion pakong sumunod kina Carlos Rios, Scott Henderson,Al di Meola, Frank Gambale, etc... as session guitarist ni Chick, pero suntok na yun sa buwan...

one of the greatest musicians put together in one super band.with Frank Gambale(one of my favorite sweepers out there) as the string man and Dave Weckl doing the drumming. Well your strapped in to some jazzy adventure then. Strap yourself in, get yourself some pop corns and some beer cans and your on your way to nirvana my friend.
I will work to elevate you just enough to bring you down

Best Chick Corea rhythm sections....

1. Eddie Gomez on bass, Steve Gadd on drums. My peyborayt - from the Leprechaun, My Spanish Heart, Friends, Three Quartets.

2. Stanley Clarke on bass. Airto Moreira on drums and percs. D' Original Return to Poreber with the Brazillian vibe.

3. John Pattitucci on bass, Dave Weckl on drums. The elektric/akoustic band.

I prefer Chick in a piano trio setting, or with a sax. For some reason, I never warmed up to the guitar ensembles (w/ Al Dimeola, Frank Gambale, etc.)
