It's not really changing your type of music, but learning to appreciate different types of music. My 1st exposure to music was 70's music, my Dad would be playing a lot of Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Led Zep on our reel player. My Dad's younger brother was an avid jazz fan, I would listen to his jazz records, he collected a lot up until now.
Then came the 80's where the biggest influence bestowed me, I was open minded with music of the 80's. I would listen to electronic, punk, gothic, new wave, rock. This also the era when I started playing the guitar. Came the 90's where where a lot of rock and grunge acts came out, this was also the time when I started looking back at the 70's and even as far as the 50's in playing the guitar.
But I agree with Nathan, I see myself as a slower player than before. Probably not much time to practice. Time is divided with family and business, weekends are not the same when I was single he he he....
