ADAT: Still a worthwhile investment?
« on: May 27, 2009, 09:31:53 AM »
With people upgrading to PC based setups, will it be wise to look for old ADAT technology and use it for recording rehearsals, gigs and perhaps even albums? Is it worth it?
I'd rather be sharp than flat.

Mesozoic. Cretaceous.

Unless you already have it lying around, or you can get it for the price of junk, the big question is "bakit pa??". You could do so much more for much less.

Now if you get your hands on a 2-track (or even 24-track) reel-to-reel machine, that's a different story. Some guys pass their digital waveforms to these things and retrieve them back to their DAW's to get tape compression and tape warmth. There are plugins that do this though, which again begs the question "bakit pa?". Unless the plugins are unsatisfactory in their simulation of tape. Which I won't know for certain till I A/B of course.

mas matibay yung tascam at mas mataba yung low end. yung alesis mas maganda yung top end

Before, I have this Alesis ADAT HDR24 na ginagamit ko for mobile live recording. Sa studio, as adat bridge lang ang use niya with my old Digi002. Binenta ko na lang simula nung nag Edrums nako.

Sayang lang pag kumuha ka pa ng adat ngayon.

Yeah. Finding tapes can be hard. (what was that supplier in greenhills dati?)

We do use a couple of DA-38s as backup for our PT system when doing live recordings... just in case we experience a glitch.
Sonar 4.04PE/5.2PE/7.02PE/8.31 PE, Project 5 v2.5.1, EmulatorX 1.5, Cubase SL2, Ableton Live 7.14,  Intel Q6600 MSI P43 Neo 4Gb Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2-800, Emu 1820m, Yamaha DSP Factory, Terratec DMX 6fire

Yung kilala kong supplier is in Makati, Group 5. They still sell tapes of almost any kind.
