ADAT optical connection
« on: March 19, 2007, 08:43:42 PM »
Good Day mga sir. I have question regarding Adat Optical. I do have Stand alone recorder Mixer Fostex FD8 it has ADAT optical in And Out and MOTU 896 it also have ADAT features.   My questions is :

1. CAn  Both machines  work at the same time recording ? How ? ibeen reading the manuals and im sorry medyo hirap akong intindihin ang function eh. Maybe you help me understand kung pano nagwowork yong ganitong set up. Im contented with my Set up with MOTU doing the recording. KAso Medyo di ko nagagamit yong FD8 . Kaya i bought an optical cable baka ma link ko sila. maraming salamat.

All indications are that the FD8 can only record 8 tracks simultaneously using it's ADAT input but will only output 8 simultaneous based on what's recorded on it's internal drive; it will not route all analog inputs to ADAT; only 2 tracks at a time or a stereo mixdown. It cannot serve as an expansion for the 896 since it's mixer is severely limited to 2 track simultaneous recording. You will need fiber optic cables for bi-directional routing of data to and from the FD8.

I think you can pair the FD8 with a Behringer ADA8000 and use it to track 8 sources live. Not 100% sure but it's an angle worth studying. That way, you can get around the 2-track limitation. You can also use the ADA with the MOTU for an additional 8 channels.
