Title: NGD: Purple Buddy has Arrived
Post by: bryanarzaga on March 28, 2010, 05:49:42 AM
trust me its purple..lol the light is screwing up the color..
anyway no bull..
Fret Wire size and feel..similar to a ESP LTD MIC (mh103QM), polished well minimal hardware buzz..
Maple Neck..closest i have is the first production Gary Kramer Crusader Limited(blue) .similar in feel not in profile..
Neck Feel and profile..i'd pick the my older ibby j.custom has the closest feel..but the Usa Custom still has the widest feel though and slimmest profile..but in comparison to others i cant really say its a C profile more like a D profile-ish
Weight..its not weight heavy or even close to the usarg30 ibby or washburn proto weight (it cant be compared with both since it both has maple tops)but the SX's tele and strat (yeah not kidding) has more weight so its closer to the Gary Kramer Crusader weights(basswood + maple top)
Finish..i did notice a small imperfection..small..i guess because of my chinky eyes i see in widescreen lol..but its not visible to others..doesnt affect tone but i'd like to put it out there before you start worshiping this guitar..
Also to add that the finish is metallic..so if you played them ibby GAX75(closest i can remember where its metallic with no poly on top) it'll feel like that
Controls and Electronics - great quality components..however position 4(neck pup split) is a bit single coil-ish noisy( i need to check this)
Pickups..good sounding..hi-fi sounding..similar to a Belcat paf set($25) but the pickups use different types of pickup wire..
Gotoh Bridge - its not perfect(like all smooth and 0% flaws) it has some rough edges(more like finish bubbles) around the side compared to a loPro edge(two different guitars so who ever compared both can stick a suhr headstock in their butt)
Only thing that kinda weird'ed me out is the locking nut placement..hey if i was a builder i wouldnt do this..but the screws are fairly large so it doesnt budge
lowdown..
if you're looking for a a guitar with a tremolo and wanting good tuning stability with the ability to whammy down with good quality wood(with 1 pc maple neck) that has a maple fretboard + tone control + switching option grab a Gary Kramer Deluxe ($499) trade off no whammy up..
if you're looking for no tone pot maple neck(1 pc) + maple fretboard + locking trem and H-H no inner coil tapping - Sterling(by MM) Axis $549(but no whammy up)
if you're looking for H-S-H, can whammy up,(maple neck, maple fretboard, under $1000 = ibby 1550
if you want something Different try this Suhr Pro M2..i need to set it up to taste but the good thing is no upgrade is required..(i love the metallic purple color)
if you want a suhr and you're on a budget? Buy a USED one..

suhr brand?
Title: Re: Meet Purple Buddy
Post by: bryanarzaga on March 28, 2010, 08:58:18 PM
damn, i can't afford a suhr.. maybe a rasmus.. pero wala pa ata e.
its not out yet...also it proves a point that you can make any guitar with proper guidance..+ Q.A (skill and tools) to make it play well(with a good guitar player ofcourse)
for the price its great and hides my tummy, but alas its price is not for every-body i do think i got great quality for my money, but whoever thinks the 'brand' makes the guitar is a dummy
1st page for the price its great and hides my tummy, but alas its price is not for every-body i do think i got great quality for my money, but whoever thinks the 'brand' makes the guitar is a dummy
1950 paid for and shipped haha, no i think they go hand in hand very well..OrGy
Its the person behind the brand that makes the guitar mojo. If one chooses to think of guitars as commercial items either misses the whole point or just simply cannot hear the difference.

Its the person behind the brand that makes the guitar mojo. If one chooses to think of guitars as commercial items either misses the whole point or just simply cannot hear the difference.
oh sure, its always a person with the proper tools, skills and determination..it is easy to HEAR, it is easy to make something sound..but to make it sound ALIVE is what mojo is..what you can HEAR and can COMPREHEND are two different things
Wow was too late that you got your new guitar already. Nice!!! The only thing that bothers me real bad is the nut...really really bothers me.
yup it did at first the screws are big..however i got on some back and forth emails with shon kornfield with him explaining that its missing a shelf which some superstrats have(he mentioned ibanez lol)..
Quote
Companies like Ibanez build a shelf for the nut and move the tuning gears further away, but this is a much different design from ours.
i'd like to point out that yes that ibanez does have the tuners much farther away same with (kramer,esp,washburn,jackson)..but not schecter usa and schecter japan..
some do move tuners away to create tension..but once that locking nut is in..string tension starts from there..can i say FR discovery series??
so yes it maybe just their 'design'..its missing a few MM of wood to cover the spot/area..sure they did on purpose..i can see it as an improvement in a manufacturers view..
they only produce 2 types of necks for the pro M series..both with the same specs and is intended for a non locking nut, since if you wanted a locking nut all you need to do is cut the area to fit the locking nut...but why without a shelf? well if you made a neck with a 'shelf' to accommodate the locking nut like the rest of the super strats..for this line you'd end up with 4 different necks (p.ferro with shelf, p.ferro with no shelf..etc2x)
so currently its a design that they embraced..
the hunt goes on for the Schecter Soloist (tadeng!)

talaga lang ha... ofcoarse they have an explanation ready. any guitar player will question this. Bryan's right for saying "if i was a builder i would'nt do this" same here with me.

Thats why I don't have Bryan build my guitars:).
Key point number#1: If you notice the Suhr method of attachment, more wood is preserved and Key point number#2: Suhr Attaches the nut from the top unlike IBANEZ (can't recall about the new ones though I think they corrected it) who drills from below creating two holes at the neck and headstock join which weakens the neck specially when stringing heavier gauges -- which is one weakness of Ibanez guitars.
So before we pretend to be experts, we should first get the side of the builder. I for one have owned floyd guitar of all different attachments and I believe that the Suhr method is the superior method because it does not weaken the neck join and minimizes the amount of wood removed.
And I would like to add since I am on Buzz Feiten, if the floyd nut had been moved back to avoid the protrusion, I would have lost more wood.

The funny thing with people is that if you observe closely on some of bryan's guitars without floyds with ordinary nuts, the protrusion floyd installed on his suhr has more contact area than some of his non floyd nuts....

That last sentence made me smile but what made me laugh was seeing who was the first to react to it! Haha, dummy you want, dummy you get! Just curious, how's the neck gap? Congrats btw.

i'm not an expert and won't pretend nor claim to be one. i would only admit i love to play guitars... the neck gap on the locking nut just does'nt look or feel right... :| is'nt it logical if you have more wood to close the gap under that nut then it would be much more stronger? and less worries for the owner :-)

Thats the problem with a majority on this forum, they confuse what looks right with what sounds right and constructed 'right'. Nope its not logical, so extending your logic, luthiers and manufacturers should maximize the width of their nuts? Mas worrisome nga ang ibanez neck join na may butas sa likod.

Is it for the same reason people don't have you play their guitars? :-D
Based on previous posts, he did actually. Speaking of pretending to be experts, I find that comment rather ironic.
I don't care about playing their guitars because a great majority of their guitars sound bad. But as per the reviewer, he first posted a review which seemed critical and may I point out that some already stated their discomfort without the shelf before the reviewer posted the Shon's reply.

Not as bad as the dummy who does not know that he is laughing at a person who isn't a dummy at all.

The TS expressed an unbiased opinion and it's good to see somebody whose man enough to state the good and the bad of a product and not get caught up with the name of it. Others have expressed their discomfort and that's perfectly fine because this is a forum. The review will only seem critical if you're a fanboy. Are you actually hurt by the review? Jeez..

now this is really nice. IMHO this is what all builders should put on their guitars. an extra recessed cut on the lower horn. very effective and very practical. same with Herman Li's EGEN.
the backside looks flawless :-)
Fafi Bry, the set up on these springs is different from the one you showed me last time. what will be the effect with this kind of set up?

Given your track record here, your lack of common sense means you're even too dumb to know you're dumb.
Wala akong track record dito. Its a forum. I have more common sense than your statements for the simple reason that you don't stand for anything with regards to tone. I can prove my points which you don't have a worthwhile stand on except to start personally insulting other people.

Its his opinion and I respect it but I find the review 'mababaw' but not to detract from Bryan's enjoyment of his Suhr. But thats just my opinion and what matters is that he enjoys his guitar. I don't get caught up in names because I am no fanboy and if theres one thing people know me for is to put down guitars regardless of price. I have stated that there are more bad sounding suhrs then there are good ones but I also feel that there are more bad sounding Ibanez guitars than good sounding Ibanez guitars. That being said, I like the Suhr guys because they are honest people and have the best customer service which unfortunately Ibanez does not seem to have.
Shon has advised me as per Ed Yoon to wait for a guitar with mojo and they have repeatedly discouraged me to do a custom guitar because of my requirements. I call that honest. You want a guitar with mojo that stands above the rest -- the Suhr guys can do it but you have to wait. And I bet my two suhrs will blow away whatever you have hmn8.

i think the "mababaw" things that Mr. Bryan noticed are the things that we often see when buying from guitar stores. we can only go deeper if we get to use it more and discover things we didn't know at the time we bought the instrument, whether good or bad.
anyway, reviews are good to me in helping me buy a guitar, but first impressions (and first hand impressions) last.
@topic
i love the color of that guitar, i love purple. for me purple is a creepy color (prs paul allender se) but can be a happy color too, like this one. love the look of the neck of that guitar.

yes its an initial meet with this one. the guitar i had tested was a pro s3 with a vintage style trem so the two things are different..also as i've discussed with Shon K. its a manufacturing design..
