I have an Alesis DM5 that I use for practice. Gumawa ako ng triggers using piezo elements from Raon for that set up at yun may instant ekit for practice na ako without spending much. Importante may good good drum module ka. Alamin mo rin yun purpose mo. Kung pangpractice lang why spend money on hi-end equipment with so much features nga pero in the end gagamitin mo lang pala eh yun standard set na pre programmed na.

It's like choosing wether you buy a high end gear(drums) or buy a car?!

I worked hard for it, di ako nag-absent! Actually, I was really planning to buy an acoustic set, pero di talaga yun uubra kung nakatira ka sa flats or buildings dito sa HK. Inilagay ko dun yung mga reasons why I chose to get an edrum (TD20 Vdrums in particular). I prefer an acoustic set over edrums sa pag-ensayo at pagtugtog live. Some may say, I'm crazy.. I don't care!  One thing for sure, I'm getting better!

Mabuhay ka peeves24!  Mabuhay tayong lahat!!!

im still contemplating on the edrums but im 90% sure that i'll be taking home a pdp kit soon. the other 10% is saying that i should just build a tiny kit to lessen expenses and channel the funds to recording gear.

Hey Teedee, nice kit. I've tried Vdrums in music stores (hanggang try lang!) and they seem to have the best feel among edrums. I also saw this Roland clinic in Frankfurt once (MusikMesse) where this pro drummer from Belgium had a go at and it sounded exactly like well mic'ed acoustic drums. Do you play drums for HK Disney 5x a week or do you do something else for Mickey?

Ey pinoymusika!

TD20 Vdrums rocks!
The best professional edrums by Roland!
Anyways, Regarding your question, Nick Manso is the drummer of the band in HK Disneyland Hotel.  Unfortunately, I don't play the drumset here.  I play for the HK Disneyland 15-piece marching band (bass drum player or sometimes I also play the snare drum..).  That's why I really have to get a good edrums na pinakamalapit sa feel ng totoong drums.  I really have to practice my chops everyday coz may plano pa naman ako na bumalik sa drumset (Ipon lang muna ako dito)!  But getting an acoustic set here in HK to practice is not a good idea unless nakatira ka sa tabi ng dagat or you rent a studio which will cost you around HK$60 per hour.

Mabuhay ka!!! :D

How about my drumkit?!!

It depends on the music that you'll be playing siguro.
Im sure edrums won't make two distinctive sounds between 5B to 7A drumsticks; or wire to nylon brushes, compared to acoustic drums which has natural dynamics.

Pero Ok talaga pang practice di ba? Ako nga nung mag try sa TomLee,mga one & a half hour akong naglaro e!

I've tried using Roland electric drums before..ok naman..its true dat volume control is a big aspect but I would have to take the side of acoustic as well. I dont like the response of the electric ones.. :D
i haven't tried an electric drum. i'm sure iba talaga feel ng acoustic. pero hirap controlin ng stage volume namin sa Church. pag naglakas na drummer lumalakas pati instrument amps. minsan natatabunan vocals (feedback kapag lalakasan pa) at naiingayan attendies.. d ba ito ang solution?

depende yan.
kung may pera ka, go for it.
i think, besides volume control, marami pang maiooffer ang electronic kits.
maraming sound effects and other settings na pwede mong mapatunog yung electronic kit.

ey in_the_tent!
Dito sa HK, my Chinese friend told me that their church bought a Roland TD20 Vdrums.  But the kit is really expensive kaya yung mga mayayaman na churches lang ang nakakaafford nun.  You can also check Roland US website.  Meron silang "Worship connection site."  Very interesting coz I never knew that Roland music are sponsoring Christian music.. nagulat nga ako nung napanood ko yung mga videos.

You can talk to your head pastor or kung sino man ang in-charge..  Ask them to soundproof your church..  Maraming kurtina, ipacarpet nyo, Paligiran nyo ng fiberglass yung drums or yung sinasabi mo na drumshield-acrylic.. etc..  Magastos talaga!

Pano ginagawa ninyo? Para madampen yung drums?

Same feel pa rin ba? Makakapagrimshot ka ba dun?

Saan nakakabili dito nun?

I use an Alesis DM5 drum module tapos gumawa ako ng triggers using piezo parts na nabili ko sa radioshack dati.

I trigger only my toms and bass drum kse ayoko mawala yun natural na tunog ng snare ko. I use it only in certain songs where it is needed kase dun sa dating band ko we used to play techno. Pero nagagamit ko rin sya pag sablay talaga yun drumset up sa mga out of town gigs where outdoor ang set-up pero wala man lang mic ang drums.

Tune your drums loose para mawala yun resonance kse yun piezo trigger picks up the vibrations produced by the drums.

Magaadjust ka nga lang ng technique mo when using this set-up kse iba yun feel ng drums.

You can also use drum pads to augment your drum set-up. Mala Akira Jimbo.

^^^Magkano score mo sa module?
Naka MuffleHead kasi yung kit ko e,kaya walang tunog.Pwede kaya yung trigger dun?
O kaya instead of buying a pair of bongo, timbales, bells, or any additional percussions, mas maganda nga siguro 'to! Magkano, bro?

How about ung mga YAMAHA DD series, like this one:

YAMAHA DD55

Dati kc me nagbebenta nito sa ebay.ph ng 8 thou lng.

Ngaun meron nagbebenta pero 12 thou gusto.

Pang record lng ata ito e and pang jamming.  Sa gig I dont think na this will be appropriate.

that particular model isn't touch sensitive...I'll be the first one to discourage you.  Its a chops downer.

How about yun DD55C? touch sensitive na daw?

let me guess, you record metal  :-D triggers are fine i guess since it helps hide the drummer's defects (e.g. playing double bass na di consistent yung level), allows you to record fast beats that would sound bad using mics (assuming the trigger doesnt mis fire), helps you do recording quicker too since you dont need to fine tune each and every drum to their utmost potential.

sobrang mabusisi sa tuning, placement at hocus pocus ang mics pero it can capture the drummer's dynamics while playing

electronic drums and acoustic drums

hey guys,

just wanted to get your opinion on electronic drums... i'm currently using one. i really wanted to get an acoustic but i was afraid that my neighbors will start complaining, especially that i can only play during night time (after work).

i just started learning how to play the drums and my first kit is an electronic. i would greatly appreciate if you can give me some inputs like pros and cons of both as far as my learning how to play is concern.

salamat po. :-)
