Personally, I only buy a Canon, & I only buy from Amazon.com.
I liked the support I got from Canon, and I like the price from Amazon.com (some of the cameras there are even 10k cheaper than those sold here). I think I've already bought around 3 cameras from there.
But if you need to buy locally, go to your favorite Hidalgo store. Prices are pretty competitive over there, too.

you have a point dude. but that actually helps na madisiplina ka mag shoot. with digital kasi nagiging trigger happy ang photographer, kasi madaling makita ang shinoot mo after you click the shutter. with film, you are conscious about the pictures you take, and you try to make sure that every frame counts. Plus with film (especially with slides) talagang huling huli pag mali ang exposure mo, so kita mo agad if you're doing something wrong. so if you want to seriously pursue photography as a hobby or as a career, the best way to learn is through film. the information you get on the net are just guides, you still learn by going out and shooting. ;)
Among local dealers, I think the cheapest Canon powershot is around P11K or P14K. But that's the price in the malls. You can look around Hidalgo to see if they have new ones in the sub P10K range. Mas mura talaga sa Hidalgo even if they are the same units with full local warranty.

IMO, if the raw film itself is expensive, I imagine making one is even more, considering that the digital camera market has practically wiped out the film market worldwide. Just my thought. :-)

The D40 kit (with lens) comes with a Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II lens. Ok na itong lens for General Photography. If you want more information, go to Ken Rockwell's site... Then start saving up for the 18-200mm VR... hehehe

Aside from the canon S3 IS (which my cousin could buy for me @ 22k in Abu Dhabi), any other cameras i could consider? i've read other topic's suggestion like the nikon d40 and the fujifilm Fujifilm S6500 but am not yet sure how much is it @ abu dhabi. I guess i would want a camera that i can use to capture close up pics (i guess they call it macro) and get to capture great views on pics but still has a good video functionality w/ audio. I've had an aiptek slimcam before which only had digital zoom and cannot capture anything on poorly lit environments so it really sucks. any other options guys?? thanks!! :-D

25k sa hidalgo (specifically, sa Mayer) gets you a lens kit.
33k will get you either a D40x with kit lens, or a D40 double lens kit (the stock 18-55mm plus a 35-210 mm). faced with that choice, a friend of mine got the d40x, which has a 10.2 MP sensor (vs 6 for the D40), faster shutter speed of 3 frames per sec (vs 2.5 for the d40) and you can go as low as ISO 100 (200 lang ata sa D40).

I suggest you also purchase the included kit lens... for its price, it's a good all around lens. Start from there and then, as you notice it's limitations that's when you purchase better lenses.

Just my opinion about old minolta cameras. Better stick to Canons or Nikons. Mahirap maghanap ng piyesa ng minoltas. My first SRL's an X700 (which was stolen) and I still have an an XG-5 and abut 5 lenses. Mahirap maghanap ng parts ng Minoltas unlike Canons or Nikons. Sayang lang mga Minolta ko. I can't even sell them.

bumili ako yesterday ng minolta xg7 2nd hand.. hindi na kasi ako nakakapag log in dito sa philmusic kasi wala pa kaming net sa bahay, 3 weeks daw patransfer. ayun, kanina ko lang ginamit pero yung f-spot niya, lumuwag. hindi na naglolock kasi nastuck siya pinwersa ko umikot. bumabalik sa 3.5 lagi. since newbie lang ako, pang training ko muna to.. salamat sa mga nagreply.. :-D pano nga pala ayusin yun?

i also suggest CIS (Continuous Ink System) if you're gonna do a lot of printing...i suggest do a lot of printing cause your print head will dry up if you won't use it...that's our tendency when we use expensive inks...

canon ixus series produces sharper images but i don't think that you can get one for 8k..i'm not really sure about the prices.

You may be referring to a dead pixel on the CCD. Check to see if your model falls under its CCD recall program. My friend's A90, on the other hand, exhibited symptoms of CCD distortion as can be seen on this page: http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html possibly caused by internal wiring vis-a-vis humidity. While your dead pixel issue may not be as bad as a distorted CCD, a service center's advise may be prudent.

you can use bracketing for HDR photos. you can take 2 or more shots of a same scene with different exposure or flash settings. then pwede mo ito i-merge with a software para maka produce ng HDR photo.
you can also use bracketing as an insurance shot. you can take many photo of the same scene with different exposure settings via bracketing. pwede ka mamili afterwards kung ano ang pinaka magandang exposure.

It will definitely work if the film cam is an EOS model. The old EF lenses won't work in an EOS body; only the new EOS compatible lenses. I have a couple of old EF lenses for my AE-1 Program and AE film SLR that I can't use for my 30D. That's the downside of using the Canon systems.

Just need ur honest personal opinions, me and my family have been using Nikon for decades mga SLR pa ito... and we are fully satisfied bout it, suddenly when I'm about to buy a new dslr, I found out that Made in Thailand na pala yun d3000, d60, d90 consumer series nila, though I don't mind where its made honestly, but the thing that bothers me is these said items seemed to be expensive pa and lack of features as compared to Canon Consumer Line-ups 1000d, 450d etc... knowing MIJ pa din ang canon...D90 for me. Napaka-helpful ng top lcd niya then may in-body motor, di tulad ng entry-level dslr ng Nikon (d5000, d3000, d60, d40. Pero, doesn't matter kung mga lens mo ay AF-S). Try niyo rin po yung feel ng camera kasi nung nakapagtry ako ng D40/D60, it felt too small for my hands kaya di ako masyado naging comfortable (malaki kasi kamay ko. haha). :-)

Is still prefer D40 over the newer bodies. Kahit entry level lang yan, if you know how to use it and if you have "the eyes" it would work talaga. It's not always about gear it's how you use it. Just my two cents.

photographers will be photographers pero diba try naman natin kumilos one step ahead of some people na nagpagandahan nalang ng rigs nila.. na para sa tao nagiging maganda yung hitsura ng kuha nila sa isang fire hydrant kasi naka Canon 1Ds MARK III/Nikon D3X full frame sila.. kahit na kaya naman kunan ng simpleng point and shoot yung fire hydrant na yun with almost identical quality.. (syempre idadaan parehas sa photoshop yung bago i-print.. at wag nilang sasabihin na hindi nila pinophotoshop yun)

One purpose of the petal hood is to protect the front element of the lens din, very useful if you are shooting in the dark and di mo na makita ung way or if nasa crowd ka. About the use of battery grip sa portraiture, Batt grip with vertical shutter are built for portraiture taking. Mas nakakangalay kung wala vertical grip bro.

lagi kong sinusupalpal ang gf ko pag nagtatalo kami sa dslr.. hanggang ngayon hinihintay nya pa din yung pera nya pambili ng nikon d5000 or d90.. tapos pag sinabi kong bibili na ako ng d60 pinipigilan nya ako, kami na daw pareho gagamit ng d5000 nya.. sabi ko na lang di ko kelangan ng latest model, maibibigay din sakin ng d60 yung ganda ng shots na nakikita namin sa net.. at syempre, dahil gitarista ako at nakatambay dito sa philmusic, inaapply ko sa kanya ang rule natin na:
"wala sa pana yan, nasa indyan"

yup. yung d80 ng friend ko 100k++ na yung actuations hindi pa bumibigay, on the other hand yung isang d80 ng friend ko bumigay na yung shutter at 20k++ actuations.. shoot lang ng shoot!!
sir eto gamit ko ngayon. the only thing that bothers me with using this cam is that you're hands should really be steady in for your shots not to be blurred.(even if you have adequate lighting in your shots). with nikon and canon cams, kahit point and shoot ka lang your shots will not be that blurry unlike with a200 kelangan mo talagang titigan and timingan yung anti-shake system radar nya sa viewfinder. other than this problem a200 is a good entry level cam for me. at least napapractice akong hindi magalaw sa pagkuha. watch ka videos sa youtube about sa a200. 8-)

parang hindi ata kakasya yung mga radio triggers kasi nung time na yun, nagamit namin yung trigger sa canon,nikon at olympus pero hindi sya fit sa sony.
pero baka po yung radio trigger yung problema hindi yung hotshoe nung sony. baka di ko lang naayos. :-)

mas madaling i-handle ang a230..yan gamit ko ngayun,,nagsisimula pa lang ako..yung interface nya sobrang daling intindihin at kutikutin..the only setback nito is yung battery life...ang haba ng charging time pero magtataka ka pag nagstart ka ng pumitik,maya maya lang,kalahati na..haha..anyway kung entry-level cam hanap mo with a very user friendly interface but pro-looking pa rin at the same time,get an a230 na lang..haha..

Kung Nikon ang camera mo, install ka ng Opanda Exif, pwede mo makita dun. Sa Canon, yung sa filename. Kung ano yung last na picture mo, yun yung dami ng shutter count mo parang ganito sya "IMG_2789", so ibigisabihin 2789 na yung shutter count mo.

Yup, unfortnately phased-out na ang D40 & D60 eh. Between the D3000 and the 1000D? 1000D ako. But that's just me. Try mo yung sinuggest ng iba dito na maghanap ng D40 na 2nd hand with low actuation. Mas maganda pa daw ang D40 kesa sa D3000 eh. Dami din akong nabasang panget na comments about the D3000.
My best suggestion is that you try both the D3000 & 1000D. Which one souts your taste? Saan ka mas nadadalian gamitin? ALin sa kanila tingin mama-maximize mo ang use? Saka ka mag-decide.

i think almost all camera makers naman naglalagay ng EXIF info sa mga files nila so any EXIF reader (like yung Opanda below) can see those details.. although di lang siguro parepareho ang tawag.. pwedeng "shutter count" or "actuation" or something else.. kaya sa tingin ko makikita mo din yung actuation sa mga pentax models..
re: D40 vs D3000 vs 1000D:
i agree dun sa suggestion ni pao.. research research kung ano difference nung mga camera in terms of features, then alamin mo kung para saan yung feature na yun at kung kakailanganin mo ba..
kung pwede, try mo din itest in person para ma-feel mo ang camera.. kasi sa technology ngayon, halos similar lang ang features ng mga camera na magkaka-level, sa minor details na lang sila nagkakatalo..
we can suggest pero more on personal preference yun at minsan may pagka-bias based sa mga camera na meron kami..
but IMHO, i would suggest a completely different approach.. go for a very good point and shoot! :-D dapat yung may manual controls.. tas play around with it until mapansin mo yung kulang sa camera mo.. then play around some more until makita mo yung "need" to upgrade.. when that time comes, you already know what to look for in a camera, it's just a matter of choosing a brand along with whatever lenses they are offering..

sir gamit ko ngayon canon 500d never fails me, pero ikaw if u have the budget then go for a higher camera. magkakatalo talo naman yan sa lens mo sir, alam mo nikkor (nikon) lenses are much expensive than canons. remember anyhow the camera wont define your shots my friend, it would always depend on the angles of your pictures, marami naman jan pampaimprove ng colors use the Adobe Lightroom para maayos kulay, pero now on my experience sobrang natututwa ako sa 500d.

mga sir baka may idea kayo kung saan at sino pwede magayos or nagaayos ng camera lens... The problem is i have a sigma 70-300mm nagagamit ko sya lagi and ok na ok naman, then last saturday may kinuhaan ako event i use it almost 4hrs. mamaya maya napansin ko hindi na gumagana yung AF nya, ayaw magshot even half press..pero kapag naka M sya nakakashot, matagal ko na napansin yun na parang bumabagal yung ikot ng motor nya dati..pero etong sabado mukang natuluyan na.. Natry ko na linisin yung mga contact point nya but still same problem pa rin.. sana may maiadvise kayo mga sir.. Salamat

Advice ko talaga 500D and wag muna magmataas na enrty-level ng dslr kung beginner ka and ika nga sabi ng professor ko sa photography hindi na bale mababa ang model ng camera mo, nasa humahawak o nasa gumagamit ng camera lang yan upang magkaroon na maganda na composisyon. :wink:+1

If sharpness and bokeh doesn't matter that much to you. kunin mo yung canon 55-250

means hindi sya makafocus agad kung gamit mo yung AF. mapapansin mo dun sa lens na ikot lang ng ikot yung motor nya pero hindi maka lock in dun subject. kailangan mo muna i turn off yung camera tapos turn on mo ulit para magfocus sya ng tama or mag focus ka muna sa ibang subject hanggang sa maglock, tapos refocus mo na lang ulit dun sa tamang subject. sometimes the second method doesnt work and all you can do is to turn off your camera.
ang alam ko oo. save up nalang for an original battery. mas mahal magpagawa ng camera

mukhang kelangan ng servicing ng lens mo bro, baka may problema na sa VR mechanism sa loob ng lens mismo... kung under warranty pa yan, ibalik mo na para mapalitan.

I think thats pretty normal..kasi nga nagwowork yung VR niya kaya nagshishift yung mechanism to compensate for the shake..I read about that somewhere..Im pretty sure it aint a defect...kaya nga mas adviced ni ken rockwell na mas maganda pa yung Non VR version of the 18-55 and gamitin...

Ngayon current lenses ko ay nikkor 28-80,18-70,18-135,50m,35m, 70-300is it 28-80mm afd and 50mm 1.8d? kung afd, FX lenses din sila, if im not mistaken. if you want to maximize a d700 fx camera like peeves24 says, best to use is a fx lenses like the trinity lens, 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200mm etc.

Check all your lenses kung merong "DX" labels on them. Kung meron, you have to change all your lens lineup kung plano mag shift sa Full Frame..
Salamat sa mga input bro's. maganda and d7k, had one for a year then sold it coz i stopped photography. Balak ko d700 para upgrade kaso di kaya ng budget. D7k muna cguro plus the 24 70mm, tutal lumabas na d800, i'm sure bababa pa price ng d700.nabalitaan ko nga rin yan. palipasin mo muna medyo mataas ang demand ng d7000 ngayon. kaya pati presyo damay ang taas ngayon

I might get the d700, para upgrade, then ipon for the 24 70mm. I have a few fx lens here anyway, para ma experience naman yung high iso performance :-D

first, buy your camera at Meyer in Hidalgo. the man has the lowest prices.
being a hobbyist without my own camera, here are my suggestions to you.
canon 550d
nikon d3100
nikon d5100
in my experience,
-nikon produces greater, more neutral picture which is great for me because i always shoot in raw. canon tends to be more colorful even in neutral.
-nikon images always have less noise, especially in low light situations.
-nikon images are sharper. taking this from the d3100, d5100 and 550d with their respective 50mm 1.8.
-the 550D has slightly faster continuous shutter burst as far as i remember. check reviews.
-in essence, Nikon lenses are cheaper. good canon lenses are labeled as 'L' whereas good Nikkor lenses are just Nikkor. and comparing the 50mm 1.8G of Nikon to the 50mm 1.8L of Canon, its on the same ground.
-the canon has better video capabilities. 720p 60fps, 1080p in 24, 25 and 30fps. the nikons only have 30fps 1080p. the 550D has manual shutter control.
-one thing i like about canon is the viewfinder. their AF points work even in manual, which helps me for i cannot set the diopter because it's not my camera.
-one thing i hate about canon is the viewfinder. if you're using prime lenses or lenses with big apertures, there's always a tendency that what you focus on according to the AF points is not what will be sharp on the image. happens to me all the time but i came to get familiar with it and the capacity of the lens so it didn't become a problem after some time. unlike Nikon's viewfinder, yes it does not assist you even in manual but what you see focused in the viewfinder is what you get.
but if you can still save up and want to really go for photography (not minding video), go for a Nikon d90 with 18-105 and 50mm 1.8.

di ko gusto output ng nikon DX000 series, specifically d3000,d3100,d5000.
siguro bad copies lang yung mga pinapagamit/pinapatest sakin before,
and magandang copy lang ng d40 and d90 yung nagagamit ko,
d550 ok ok lang, feeling ko di honest yung output ng d550 in terms of color rendering kahit manual iset yung whitebalance,
pati yung ibang parameters related sa color outputs.
pero ang ok sakanya sharp parin kahit kitlens lang,
im a canon user, in some point i agree with you sir specially with the color difference of 550D with nikon , i compared it with D5000, iba yung color.. im just adjusting it in lightroom.. pero ang advise naman saken calibrate daw ung color sa custom settings, but for me it cant be applied to all photoshoot eh.. default at lightroom edit nlng.
nasa preference naman ng tao yun when it comes to color. okay daw ang canon kase mas okay ang range ng colors pagdating sa editing. nung naka 50 1.8 ako dati wala ang pangit ng kulay hindi ako satisfied gusto ko nang itapon yung camera ko. pero nung nag L na ayun! minahal ko na ulit camera ko :)

Meron akong Nikon FM10 na may 35-70mm lens na kasama na nya. Ngayon, gusto kong bumili ng slr na kung saan pwede ko pang magamit yung 35-70mm lens na galing sa FM10.
