The Pearl drums with the black rims and lugs look well-plated.  I'm not sure though with long-term usage.

I've always liked the look of black - and the kits that use black hardware look cooler and more modern to me than the ones that use traditional chrome. But are they practical? Is chrome more durable? Will black hardware tend to scratch more? Expert advice would be appreciated!

depende sir kung anong drums. by colored hardware you mean powder coated.

IMO, if the hardware design is a bit plain, mas maganda siya pag black. Pag maraming fancy-shmancy, mga shapes and stuff, chrome.

Good about chrome is, hindi siya namimili ng color. Black doesn't look good in some colors chrome looks good on.

I like black. Sana may black stands din, hehe.

you can have black cymbal stands for cheaper than you think. just buy a regular stand or use or old one and bring it to a powder coater (like versa in mandaluyong). my guesstimate is about less than 100 bucks per stand

Black hardware looks cool, though I agree that they do need to match with certain colors or finishes.

Some drum manufacturers have high-quality, durable powder-coated finishes.  Pearl's black hardware are well-finished.  The Gretsch Vinnie Colaiuta Signature kit in 19 East (http://www.19east.com/) has black hoops and lugs.  Sadly, it already has some chips and scratches.

Personally, I prefer chrome hardware.  I love how it shines under the stage lights, it looks more elegant, and it never goes out of style.  And it seems easier to color-match or coordinate other drums and components that one often adds or replaces, such as steel timbales and snare drums (especially when one has the habit of switching different snare drum models).

If ever I'll have a drumkit with black hardware, I want the rest of the hardware (stands, tripods, rack tubes & components, etc.) to be in black too; not just the drums.  I'm that obsessive-compulsive hehe!   8)

^^^  there's a sample color palette if you drop by their office

versa only does 1 color per day, if you happen to choose a color that's not currently on their oven, you will have to wait (for days) until there is a batch to be done.

i dont know about republic if they only do one color per day.

question lang po regarding powder coating.
pag nag ririmshots?

or kung mag katamaan yun mga toms while nag seset-up, very rare namana mangyari

Powder coating does not chip off that easily..especially the factory made one by the drum companys (like Pearl's black hardwares)..that is why they are widely used for that reason..but they still do have a limit..

one more thing, plan ko ipa powder coat yun mga luma kong hoops pero not that old. may rust na in some parts but not that bad kaya i sprayed it with pylox chrome finish but walang kwenta ang kinalabasan. parang silver paint lang.

question. before ko dalin sa powder coating shop kelangan ko bang tanggalin yun silver with the use of paint remover?

but they say that Chrome Dazzler is the best in the chroming business...

it's along P.Tuazon, Cubao....from north going to south, turn right on P.Tuazon(take the Cubao "ibabaw" route). then just look for the shop, i'm not sure of the exact address.

Uy. ikaw din ata sir gusto magpa chrome.  :-) malapit sa araneta center. magandang landmark would be alimal. if you know p. tuazon sa cubao, try taking that route until you reach edsa, pag kita mo na edsa, go straight lang para tatagos ka dun sa other side.  :-)

:-D sa powder coating naman, mahirap for my snare kasi tendency maiiwanang chrome yung snare strainer. i also don't like the effect pag yung screws chrome/silver padin yung kulay.  :-)
how do you like that 18" floor tom pala bro? :-D

may kilala ako nagrestore ng snare. Even the tension rodsw and hops ay narestore nya.

Binabad niya daw sa oxalic yung lahat ng hardwares niya and then nung nawala na yung kalawang, nagpowdercoating na siya. Until now eh maganda parin yung snare niya. :)
