Try mo yang mga books na yan pre Hindi ka magsisisi. :-D
Ung mga gusto maglaro ng chess online try no ang FICS. Astig maglaro dito libre sya. Ska pwede mo maka chat kalaban mo. Pwede karin mag add ng friends dito at mag set ng time kung gano katagal laban nyo. Ang isa pang maganda dito may rating kayo dito.

I am a chess player.

Sa kahit anong opening applicable ang general opening guidelines like in sicilian. You will bring your rook on the open c file. Kaya nag castle para malabas mo ang dalawang rook ska para safe ang hari. Kung kumbaga sa giyera ung 2 rook mo ang bomba mo. Lugi ka kung ung kalaban mo may dalawa syang bomba ikaw wala.
Common case kasi pagnagsisimula sa chess ay mga elementary blunders. So Para ma eliminate ung mga gantong blunders, magsolve ka ng chess tactic probmlems gaya ng skewer, pin, fork etc. Mag solve ka din ng mga mate problems. Magstudy ka din ng endgame and middle game themes.

my own personal guidelines
• don't castle too early
Depende sa position yan. May mga position na kahit hindi kana magcastle ok lang. May mga position then na kailangan mo magcastle kaagad. Minsan nagsasacrifice pa nga ng pyesa or pawn para lang hindi maka castle ang kalaban, like the game below between former world champion GM Petrosian and GM Stein.

Nakalimutan ko din idagdag, hindi lang naman atake sa hari ang plano sa chess, many games have been won on endgames. Ang pagatake sa hari ay depende sa posisyon, halimbawa if the position suggest that you pressure a pawn, then iyon dapat mo gawin kasi un ang tamang plano. Look at the game below of one of the greatest chess player off all time, Capablanca(there is a period that he only lost once in the next 10 years).

After some moves, pinapakita sa posisyon na hindi ang pagatake sa hari ang tamang plano kundi ang pagpressure sa pawn weakness sa d4.
Paano ba gumawa ng plano sa chess? Makikita yan sa pawn structure. Example ng mga pawn structure ay, isolated pawn, backward pawn at hanging pawns. May mga tinatawag din na close center, open center, symetrical center.
Pero mostly sa beginners level, marami players ang natatalo dahil sa mga blunders and weak tactical skills. So in order to improve your tactics, you should solve tactical problems, pero never neglect studying endgames and strategy.

Bro I guess depende yan sa hilig ng tao, kung ano mas hilig siyempre un ang mas pipiliian. Ung pagkatalo kasi is a part of learning process and challange. If a player loves chess balewala sa kanya ung pagkatalo, instead he/she will seek to improve.
Ung pagkalabo ng mata parang ngaun k lang narinig yan.

maraming salamat, yes good suggestions nga yan. yes medyo madaming blunders nga at natakot ako akala ko matatalo na ako..saka lamang na siya sa piyesa at sa oras, sa pagkakatanda ko konti lang ang oras namin parang blitz..pero sinubukan kong magsacrifice move para masira yung defense ng kingside niya at diretso dama ang pinaka goal ko kasi talo na talaga ako sa mterials

But i like the fact that you developed your pieces in the opening. Yeah typical Fischer un unlike Petrosian (former world champion) na madaming closed position games. Tingnan mo din mga games ni Alekhine at Kramnik instructive din mga games nila.
For tactics problem eto magandang site. Try solving problems at chesstempo atleast 2 problems a day, malaki igagaling mo.

Example 1. White has dark bishop and light bishop , since bishop is equal to 3, then dark bishop + white bishop = 6. Now black has a rook, since rook is equal to five, white has material advantage because 6 are greater than 5.
Example 2. White has 3 pawns, since 1 pawn is equal to one, then 3 pawns = 3.
Now black has a knight which is equal to 3, we can say that both and black has equal material.
Example 3. White has a rook which is 5 points. Black has two pawns and a bishop which is when you total is also 5 points, so the position is equal in material on both sides
Now one might ask is it better to have two pawns plus a knight or bishop against a rook? The answer is it depends on the position of the pieces on the board.

But an endgame of a bishop and king against a lone king is known in chess endgame as a draw. Cause the bishop and king can't mate the lone king. Here is an example of a mate with a single rook.

Wow! I miss playing chess. Nung elementary ako, 'di ako makapasok sa Basketball team kasi medyo maliit ako so i tried out for Chess. Nag-champion ang team namin sa intramurals. Nagkaroon pa kami ng exhibition match with the great Eugene Torre, I remember 30+ ata kaming kalaban niya from different schools. Walang nanalo sa amin. Hehe. Haven't played it in a loooonnng time.

busy n rin sa work..tsk tsk
minsan may limitation talaga software ng chess.. kc pag unulit ulit mo moves mo
minsan magbabago sya ng pasya ng moves na hindi pwde o kaya magugulat ka
halimbawa bigla nyang mapapabayaan queen o mahahalagang pyiesa nya

sa second round. Then di ko akalain tumaas rating ko dahil sobrang taas pala rating ng nakalaban ko :lol:
pero mautak yun mga team mate nya dahil dun sa need ko next na maipanalo dahil may tatlo pa akong laban
yun isa tinalo ko at yun dalawa pang games hindi sumipot, kaya muntik na akong makapasok sa second round tsk tsk..
any way, thats great challenge, at totoo napakarami pang magagaling sa chess..

Chess.com site offers forum(parang philmusic.com, you can post topics), online chess playing and articles. What do you mean shortcut technics? There is no short cut po in improving at chess. To improve at chess we need to study endgames, tactics and positional play.

yup. and we can use both pronunciations... :lol: just finished reading a fischer biography ("endgame" - by frank brady) and as it turns out, bobby fischer did live in baguio for some time, did have a filipina girlfriend who had a daughter in 2000-01, but eventual DNA testing had proven that he's not the father...
and it was during fischer's stay in the philippines that he made that infamous call to bombo radyo following 9/11. anti-american and anti-jew sentiments at their worst... :eek:

Even if you have forgotten some opening variation as long as you study chess endgame, tactics and middle game plans before, you will beat many players.
There are many developing players na memorize ang opening without understanding the idea behind it. A developing player should focus more on studying endgames, tactics and middle game themes..

Nagkaroon ng interdepartment tournament sa company namin. Ang nakakahiyang record ko. 2 Loss - 1 draw -default na ung ibang matches ko.
Feeling ko, napakahina ko. Kasi Ruy Lopez opening lang alam ko.
Pag closed game parang na-suffocate ako. Gusto ko makipagpalitan agad ng pieces. Pinag-aralan ko rin ung mga ibang openings pero hanggang openings lang.
Pag computer ang kalaban ko, nananalo ako. Sa Chessmaster, also ung computer chess.

Sa MWSS nung nagpa tournament international.
Doon ko nakita si GM Eugene Torre, GM Paragua, at yun iba pa nating panlaban sa chess. Si Eugene nung hindi ko pa nakikita akala ko mga around 30+ lang yata pero nung nakita ko mga about 50 going to 60 na pala.
Saka doon ko din nakita mga wierdong tao, may long hair na parang yun goal keeper sa shaolin soccer, at yun kambal na taiwanese na mga 7 years old pa lang may rating na sa chess lumalaban sa mga GMs. At siempre yun pinaka mataas na rating na pinaka grand table si GM Filippov (ELO 2595). Na parang kamukha ni ANAND :wink:

Tol kasi kung puro laro lang, at hindi pinagaaralan mga techniques at strategy sa chess, hindi talaga mag improve. Parang guitar playing iyan eh, you need to learn techniques to be good. :mrgreen:

Your opponent got a strong center that is rolling. But that will not happen if you did not blundered a pawn. Instead of 8.nxd4, you should have played 8.cxd4 to protect the e5 pawn from capture. Instead of 28 Qd3, you should have played 28 nf2 to prevent the e4 of black.If you want to improve you should try to eliminate simple blunders like this. Try to solve chess puzzles.

Your opponent got a strong center that is rolling. But that will not happen if you did not blundered a pawn. Instead of 8.nxd4, you should have played 8.cxd4 to protect the e5 pawn from capture. Instead of 28 Qd3, you should have played 28 nf2 to prevent the e4 of black.If you want to improve you should try to eliminate simple blunders like this. Try to solve chess puzzles.

It's a tactical blunder cause you lost a pawn. A tactical blunder is when you lose material. Since you lost a pawn without compensation(and a center one) nagkaroon siya ng strong center. Kung tumira ka ng 8. cxd4 di sana hindi ka pawn down. Iyung pawn structure ng kalaban mo after your pawn blunder,with strong players such plan of pushing the center pawns is not really that hard to see.
Sa mga masters play nga nag sacrifice pa sila ng whole piece just to win center pawn, para makagawa sila ng strong pawn roller.Ung pawn avalanche/roller, alam nila na mangyayari kahit few moves away pa(pattern recognition and calculation).

In fact this center pawn push is a common plan in such structure.Mga masters minsan nagsacrifice pa ng rook for a knight or bishop or even a whole piece para lang makakain ng center pawn for a center roller.

I think you are 1100 player because you don't study endgames, strategy and tactics from books and videos? Now kung ang gusto mo lang ay maglaro okay lang iyon kahit hindi mo na pagaralan ang chess. Pero kung gusto mo mag improve, you need to study chess.

Yes, I do study a lot when I do not play, usually after a string of losses. Some losses I know I deserve, some I just know I did well but somehow lost tempo and/or material. Some are just plain stupid. But after studying, I find I need to play otherwise it's just a mental note of the lesson easily forgotten. But you're right maybe I play too much.
I do remember that game of mine you posted. My oh my did I hate that 25.Qxe5. I felt it could've ended differently without it. No matter how any puzzles I solve, sometimes I just lose step or drop the ball like on that occasion.
About the other game, thanks for the advice, with emphasis on the central pawn. It's just something I read about, but only after that look you did at my game was I able to grasp it fully. Next time I'll be on the lookout, since as you say, it's so common with strong players.
And oh, do you have an chess youtube channel? I find it fascinating sometimes watching stuff GJchess or MatoJelic posts. Very instructional for a novice like me.

I check some of your games, and you have lots of game where you got the better position. I think your positional understanding is improving. Unfortunately it's the blunder that messed up your positions. Well making elementary blunders, on frequent basis, is really common among improving/novice players. What's amusing is that you can solve harder problems but make simple blunders right? I think the thinking process is main culprit on why novice players make elementary blunders a lot. You might solve many chess puzzles, but if you can't address the problem of thinking process, you will still see many blunders in your game.
Here are my tips to improve your thinking process:
1. Always look/scan the whole board
If your opponent is thinking don't forget to scan the whole board.Before you make a move,don't forget to scan the whole board(checking the position of your pieces and opponent's pieces). Let say your opponent makes a move on the left side of the board, you have tendency to look only on the area where your opponent makes his move right? What if your opponent has a bishop on the corner right side?Since you are not looking at that side, you put your pieces on its capturing range. As a result you lost a piece. The moral of this?Always scan the whole board.
2. Before you make a move, check if there is a tactical drawback. Before you make a move, check in advance what your opponent might play.
For example, you are thinking to place your queen on a good square. Now if you don't check for tactical drawback(or what your opponent might move before you do yours) it can be costly. What if that square where you will put your queen is a blunder? Because after your opponent makes a bishop move your queen is pin against your king. If you check for tactical drawback before you make a move, blunder such as this can be avoided.
3. Always study your opponent's last move.
4. Don't play bullet games. Reserve this when you are already a better player.
5. When you solve chess problems, try to remember the patterns.
I don't have a youtube chess video. But I will suggest that your try to look at the videos of king crusher, Seirawan and Smirnov as they are instructive. Try to search Kasparov crushing with initiative video(it's also instructive).
If you have setbacks with your quest for improvement, don't be discouraged. Chess improvement takes time.

Time win only. Analysis welcome from fellow chess lovers. I'm one pawn down, and have lost the center.
I think state of mind comes into play a lot as well. I've learned (/keep learning) bitterly not to play when I'm just bored, pissed off, or feeling too confident. It's really those times when I pay the price dearly. Being brash has no place.
On the other hand, being patient, clinical, and malevolent is very much a chess asset.
Case in point.
I admire how he can, from one position, look ahead 3-5 moves with ease, and he can just as immediately, return the pieces to where they all were. See also, his demeanor when he's talking about it in retrospect, at every turn wanting to do damage to his opponent, and happily considers every means of making him miserable. Top-level chess players can be the meanest, baddest individuals on earth, they just show it on the board with a poker-face fascination.. ang angas lang nila like that. :lol:

Any noobie tips on mid game - end game? Lagi ako talo when it comes to pawn/king moves.
1.Solve tactics problems to improve your tactical skills and lessen blunders
2. Open with 1.d4 or 1.e4. Answer 1.d4 with d5. Answer 1.e4 with e5.
3. Always look at the whole board and study your opponent's last move
4. Try to watch King Crusher's youtube videos. They will help you improve your middle game.
5. Search at youtube for endgame positions like king and rook against lone king mate and opposition endgames.

handicap kasi in accordance with opening principles it is a mistake kasi it waste a tempo without a good reason and your king will be in the center(the position might open ad your king will be exposed). hehe.
malakas ang middle game and endgame ni carlsen kaya na overcome niya. it also helps that this is a bullet format. :D

Instructive iyung game. Iyung h3,g4 ay good pattern to do kapag stabilize at close and center tapos nag pin siya ng bishop sa knight mo. alalay lang at moving pawns in front of your king can be dangerous. hehe.

Memorizing many opening variations
What if your opponent played a move that you don’t memorize? You won’t know what to do. A beginner should just learn opening principles and study endgames and tactics.
Not solving chess puzzles.
At beginners level, blunders often happen. To improve your tactical ability, you need to solve chess puzzles.

Even if the queen is off the board and your opponent can’t castle, it does not mean that you will have a strong attack against his king. Queen is the strongest piece in chess and without your queen the pressure will have less force. But there are positions in which,even without a queen, the king is under heavy pressure. Even in endgame(few pieces) there are positions in which the king is under pressure.
Pressuring the king on the center, by trading Queens to prevent your opponent from castling ,is not the only reason why you trade queens. There are other good reasons.
Trade queens in general(and not only to prevent castling) :
If you have a material advantage.
Without queens you reduced your opponent’s chance you have a haymaker on you. You also have a winning endgame.
If your opponent has pawn weaknesses.
Queen trades favors you if your opponent have pawn weaknesses because you can focus at pressuring them without worrying that he might develop a strong attack on your king. Pawn weakness is a major liability at endgame.
If your opponent has a strong attack against your king.
Without Queens the pressure will lessen.
