Recommend me a good 65w Amp?
« on: December 27, 2009, 05:55:07 PM »
I've looked at and tried some cheap ass amps:

Laney LX65R, Laney LV200, Peavey Transtube 112, Line 6 Spider 75w

They're all pretty decent, well, except the Spider lol, considering the price. My pitiful budget is around 10k.

Now, before I go deciding, I really like the LX65R and the LV200, and if I had to choose I'd take the LV200 easily. Really decent amp and good price. It's a tad more expensive than the rest but I'm willing.

But I wanna know if there are any other amps worth trying out within my budget.

If it exceeds 15k, forget about it. I'm saving for a good tube amp one day (lol, I'm still a student), but I really need one now because the church's Marshall AVT20 available to me just ain't cutting it for me.

BTW, I'm mostly gonna use it for church gigs and some other small gigs. My non-church usage is mostly Punk/Alternative/Heavy and basically any type of Rock. I'm not much of a blues/jazz person. Some metal but not really necessary.

As long as the price stays within 10k~15k and is available locally, recommend me. I'm not against buying 2nd hand either, since my usage of the amp will be sorta temporary.

Wow. That would totally trump the other amps I was looking at.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm searching the classifieds now.

the peavey transtube 112 is a decent amp.

i've been using a 65-watt peavey studio pro 112 for more than 4 years now for gigs and rehearsals. it's very pedal-friendly, and the cleans are pretty decent.

The Laney Lx65R has proven to be a solid workhorse. Great features, light to carry, enough power for small shows.
I'd rather be sharp than flat.
