FRONT-LOADED vs. REAR-LOADED CABS - Any major tonal difference?

I once read an audiophile book - NEVER REAR-LOAD A SPEAKER IN A BAFFLE.  But that was a HI-FI speaker design book.  For guitar it seems to be normal to rear-load speakers.  But a lot say front-loaded speakers sound better.  Any insights?
