only "new" gen in the sense that he has been getting more recognition only lately ... Buddy Whittington

I would gladly listen to him play the blues, over any of the younger players, including the SRV heirs-apparent and wannabees...

Siyempre John Mayer.  Another young guitar player who impresses me is Henry Garza of Los Lonely Boys. Galing din nang chops nun.  I especially like his solos in Velvet Sky.

This thread convinced me to research about Derek Trucks.

Hard to argue about who is the current best, if there is such a thing. But I believe every guitar player should check out Scott Henderson.
