to combat the jitters, kwentuhan muna ako with my friends bago tumugtog (syempre i still watch the band playing. sino naman ang magkakaron ng makabuluhang usapan pag may tumutugtog diba? hehehehe). syempre mapapainom ako ng mga 1 or 2 bottles of beer. tapos ayun.

o kayo naman. hehehe.

1. I drink I can/bottle of Coke (pang sugar rush)
2. I go out of the bar in the middle of the set of the band before us, para fresh ang ears.
3. To kill nerbyos, I play "Go with the flow" by Queens of the Stone Age as a warm up. (warm up really kills nerbyos. I'm anxious that I'll [strawberry] up, and warm up lessens the probability that you would)

Stay loose. Take deep breaths while playing it helps a lot to relax. Have fun.

My pre-gig rituals:

- I warm-up on my practice pad.
- I do stretching exercises.
- I walk around the venue, trying to feel the place.
- During set-up, I spend a moment sitting behind the drumkit, also trying to feel out the kit and anticipating what to do during the show.
- I relax as much as possible, trying to save up energy for the gig.
- When I feel sleepy or lacking energy, I eat chocolate or drink coffee (para pampa-hyper).
- I psyche up myself before the gig.  I listen to music on my mp3 player, or read Modern Drummer magazine, etc... Anything to help me focus on music and drumming.

Before the gig:
1. Lalayo muna ako sandali sa tugtugan.
2. Stretching.
3. Konting inom ng tubig.
4. Magsisintas ng sapatos uli.

After the gig:

Go to the gym regularly.

If I missed a week, I'd do push up before going to the gig.

Wag magpaka busog before the set.

Drink or bring water all the time.

inom lang ng kalahati'ng bote ng tanduay, sabay bago sumampa sa stage, hit a few bumps of cocaine in the banyo....ay! good boy na pala ako...hindi na pala! hehehe.

i like to get to the venue early to scope the place out like anthony said. a couple of beers don't hurt but drinking to kill nerves can numb you too much. when getting ripped, the first thing to get muffled is your hearing so that's not good. drink a shot or two of tequila. that'll get you warm quick and give you the bravado to just play without caring what anyone thinks. remember that saying "dance like no one is watching?" do that!

in  my opinion and experience, it makes my arms sluggish if i'd been lifting weights or doing push ups. i suggest doing that a few days before your next gig so you feel stronger but not slow and cumbersome.
