Ahhh pickups. The tone quest never ends. Good choice on the Wolfetone Mashallheads. I've tried Marshallheads and Legends and I find them very good. Hey, Johan installs a variant of the Legends model in his Bluesmasters.
It's good time to have a Les Paul and try many of the boutique offerings. You can talk to the winders and describe to them what you want and they will wind 'em right for you. Unfortunately, with the many winders out there doing their own take of the PAF tone, it is a very expensive and time consuming process to try each one. In my experience a pickup may sound very good in one guitar but so-so in another. I find that very frustrating but fun, cuz' I get a high experimenting on pickups. Alas, that was many moons ago. I am not made of money and I've narrowed down on a few winders for my axes. Someday when I get to earn more mulah, I will try others. Yep, for me pups are also GAS.
sheptones are good but i heard a bad review not about his pickups but his commitment. I went to Wolfe instead. I sent him clips of my les paul and told him about my guitar. He said that my guitar must be tamed as it is already bright, which is good.
It is news to me that Jeff Shepard of Sheptones has a problem with his commitments. He has wound for me some outstanding Tributes and AB Customs and they have a very unique flavor.
Peace.
