Author Topic: Blackstar HT-5R MkII vs Katana 50 / 100 (Read 5068 times)

I'm looking for a new practice amp and I'm looking at these two. Katana 100 is at the same price range as the blackstar but it's just too much for my house. So, is it better to save up with the modeler or is it worth it to spend for the tube amp?

Katana 50. Half the price of the Blackstar MkII pero mas maraming features and probably will sound as good as the Blackstar. Pang practice lang naman eh hehe

Sobrang lakas na Katana 100 for practice. At kaya sumabay ni Katana 50 sa acoustic drums!

Depends on the sound that you are looking for. And the term “worth it”...ikaw lang makakapag sabi nyan. May kakilala ako sa 1 bedroom condo nakatira pero ang amp nya Peavey 6505 MH and 1x10” cabinet. Si Paul Gilbert naman...naka Yamaha THR5 and pedals naman kapag nasa hotel room lang sya (just look for the video of that). Solid State yung THR5.

You can always have a tube amp (kahit Marshall JVM pa yan) sa bahay/office as long as you have space and you can get the tone that you want within acceptable sound levels.

Pahabol na tanong sa katana 50: pano diskarte sa fx kung wala syang fx loop? Gusto ko sana gamitin yung amp modeler tapos gagamit ako ng sarili kong modulation, reverb, delay, etc...

kung pasok sayo ang 2nd hand.
I suggest Ibanez TSA15 combo. 2nd hand price is around 10-15k
all tube amp w/ builtin TS9 ata or 808 sa dirty channel.
w/ fx loop at takes pedal really well.
saktong sakto sa bedroom or small venue. you can switch from 15w down to 5w
kung maka chamba ka ng isa. don't hestitate.

pero syempre top option dito e either katana50 or thr5

If you want to do that...kelangan mo i-mod ang amp mo. There’s no other way unfortunately.
Also as mentioned by robininibor, definitely check out the Ibanez Tube Screamer Amp.

Right now, I'm choosing between the ht-5r and katana 100 being at the same price range. I don't want to mod my amp just to accommodate my needs. I would rather that they be there when I want them.

Would you still pick the Katana 100 over the ht-5r?

Katana 100. overrated lang ang ht-5r.
para saken pedal lang yan na nilagay sa cube case plus power and preamp section para masabing amp

kung practice tube amp. you might wanna check out goldea. may mga 15w tube amp sila.
really nice amp for it's price.
pero hinding hindi ka mag sisisi sa katana. masyado lang malakas for bedroom practice.
d ko sure sa katana 100 kung you need to crank it up to get a decent tone.

Katana user here. Kat100 112 to be exact. Ok yung features nya lalo yung power control. Sa .5 watts sakto as bedroom practice amp or kahit yung mga light jam lang with buddies. Mas ok na mag-100 ka na kesa 50. Yung 100 may 4 channels kada 1 bank. 2 banks so 8 channel ka na unlike sa 50. Plus yung effects loop since nabanggit mo na gusto mo gamitin mga mods pedals mo. And kung makag-gig ka man, kayang kaya naman sumabay ng Katana sa full band mix. Si Jam ng Even Katana 100 212 yung touring amp nya. Hindi ka na magsisisi sa katana.

Kung ok sayo orange tone, check mo rin Orange Cr35rt. 35 watts na may effects loop. Hindi lang ako sure kung pano sya tumagos pag full band mix, hindi ko nagamit yung CR35rt ko sa ganung application dati eh.

Nagka-blackstar ht5r rin ako dati, after ilang months bumigay yung power amp section nya.

Wow. I'm actually surprised by the Katana consensus in PM. I guess there's a shift in mentality here in the last 10 years or so.

The last modeling amp I have is a 2007 Vox AD100VT-XL - 100 watts and 212. It sounded okay and resells for half the price. Now it won't power on and I don't know how to fix it.

Haven't used a lot of modeling amps since then, but it's very sturdy and I still have it in my office as a decoration.

After extensively checking the reviews, seems like Boss did a good job. I hope it doesn't cause option paralysis. I might try it out this weekend.

@iamweird: ano ginawa mo sa amp mo sir? napaayos mo ba? One of the appeals of the Blackstar was its simplicity and parang eto yung unang model ng Blackstar na magugustuhan ko, na-disappoint ako na nasira yung amp mo.

Nasa yo to paps. Yung menu nya sa mismong amp is good enough para makakuha ka ng good tones. Kung gusto mo pa i-shape tone mo, sa software mo na i-tweak, dun magsisimula yung option paralysis mo lalo kapag nadownload mo yung sneaky amps. Dadami option mo ng amp models hehe. Yung mga effects nya mas madali i-adjust sa software/apps pero since plano mo naman gamitin mga pedals mo, I think hindi issue yun.

Hindi ko na napaayos/pinaayos yung blackstar ko. Ang mahal ng quote nila sa Singapore sa kin dati, that time kasi nasa Singapore pa ko based. Kaya binenta ko na lang ng talo tapos bumili ng ibang practice amp.

Wala ako idea about 212 vs 112. 50w vs 100w lang nacompare ko kasi.
