lets say...

Hinde.

Dipende pa rin sa drummer yan, regardless of what brand of equipment he/she uses or endorses.

And let's take note...  There's are so many virtually unknown drummers in the world who possess world-class drumming skills.  Sayang lang kasi there may be circumstances where in hindi sila nagkaroon ng opportunities na mai-expose, mapakita or magamit ang mga talents nila.

Artists with equipment endorsements are blessed.

OT...  I would love to endorse Sonor drums if I have the opportunity.  Sonors are one of the finest drums on the planet.  Their high-end models (SQ2, Designer Series, DeLite) are the real deal.  But I wouldn't mind endorsing Pearl or Tama.

Adding to what I posted, I want to cite an example...  Master Koko Bermejo.

As far as I know, Koko is not endorsing any drum product.  But he is as good, or even better, than most drummers with product endorsements, local or foreign.  I can also say the same regarding Master Benjie "Bagets" Mendez.

Nasa drummer talaga... Hindi sa brand ng mga equipment.  Just further proving my statement.

si paris hilton ay hindi singer o artista.

kahit ilang sine pa o ilang albums pa ang gawin niya.

no. equipment companies give out endorsements primarily based on a drummer's marketability, meaning the drummer must play in a high-profile setting. product placement and brand visibility are more effective if the drummer plays for a popular act (even if he/she isn't that skilled) as compared to a certified monster who only gets to play to a specific (and small) market as said popular act is more visible.

the bottom line is, as in any business, income generation. the sucky drummer for a band with a top 10 hit album will likely sell more sticks, cymbals or drums than seņor woodshedder.

it's business, that's all it is.

for me, this all boils down to producers gamble of one persons marketability and PROFITABILTY, not entirely because of his talent or skills.

thats why the likes of william hung, paris hilton got record deals, producers believe they have a market for their talent. huh!

No...

Pero, kahit Fernando lang yung ine-endorse ko, I'll be the first one to tell you that I'm not a good drummer...

I'll just convince you to buy a Fernando drumset... And maybe some Zildjian cymbals on the side...

if i remember correctly, i saw bagets in the tamburo booth way back in the 1998 or 97 PALA show (not sure about the year but that was a long time ago). should that be considered an endorsement?  hmm, maybe not. to me it appeared like tamburo needed to exhibit their stuff here in the philippines and that they hired a skillful drummer to demo the quality of their products for a day or two.

my answer is NO.  i don't believe in endorsements.  endorsements only add to the cost of a product.  i was seriously thinking about this issue the other night while travelling inside an fx (probably coaxed by all those life threating, humungous billboards that spread like mushroom over the past years).   my weird thoughts ran thus: i wish the day would come when dishonest endorsements cause the endorser to just spontaneously combust (or the like).  then we would only have to put up with sincere opinions, making a lot of our decision-making less complicated. just a thought, im really not into politics so no shooting please :)

well, maybe having an endorsement or two (or three...) says something (although very little, in my opinion) about your capabilities as a musician, but it doesn't follow that those who have more endorsements are better musicians/artists. some people simply don't want to be tied up to a particular brand. they'd rather enjoy the freedom of being able to use any brand they wish. some people don't need an endorsement deal to stay loyal to a particular brand. some people who don't carry endorsements can actually kick the ass of one who carries several.

as a general rule, the amount of endorsements is not an accurate measure of an artist's capabilities. it is just a measure of how infuential he is, at least according to the companies/brands he endorses.

yes, you remembered it correctly. in fact, bagets (he's a former bandmate, from second wind) got a whole drumkit for that 'gig'. it was supposed to be an endorsement deal, but it's not clear to me either why it never materialized.

NO NO NO. Fab Morreti of The Strokes endoreses LUDWIG Visalites. tsk tsk tsk. He's way to far from being Bonham if this will be the case? When it comes to drum or any product endorsements, companys' just want MAXIMUM exposure. It' jus the same case why Sharon Cuneta endorses lots of products in the Philipppines. PHCare anyone? heheh.

My former drum teacher/obiwan (Sir Jun Regalado!) endorses Premier drums but still opts to use Iron Cobras pedals as personal choice. It's not always with the brand. In the end it still lies in the drummer's preference. I'm working as a Pro-Photographer and I quite know how marketing/commercial stuff works. If our pictures appear on pages of drum magazines, we are drummers no more. We are MARKETING TOOLS.

I'd agree with Drumster (Dio!) that Koko is an amazing drummer but doesn't endorse anything. (hanggang ngayon pa ba?)

As for me. I'd be happy to be endorsing (just a fantasy, drum quality I trust):
Gretch/Tama/Sonor/Mapex for shells
Sabian/Paiste/Wuhan for cymbals
Evans for heads
Ahead for sticks
Senheiser for drum mics
Yamaha Mixers
Roland electronic drums/triggers
hmm..... pantasya.
