im no camera expert pero basically ang upgrade from stock lens which is 18-55mm IS (image stabilizer) is 18-200mm IS
both have 18mm at the start that you can use on normal photos and a 200mm. sabi nila this is the most versatile range of lens.

prime lens diba? sa price range mo. you can get either the canon 50mm f1.4, 85mm 1.8 both at 17.5K or canon 24mm 1.8 at 22K

Depends on what focal length you want.

For 50mm, there's the Canon 50mm f/1.4 or the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 (which I hear is better)

For 85mm, there's the Canon 85mm f/1.8. It's a really sharp lens, having tried one myself.  :-)

Dibs on the 50mm f/1.4. I've read reviews and it's highly recommended. Para kasing laruan ang f/1.8 version kahit konti lang ang stop difference.

You might consider the 85mm 1.8 din, better bokeh, faster AF and better build quality. Might be too tight for a crop though, unless used for portraits. :)

Sigmas 50mm is better than cannons.. tried them both ganda ng BOKEHHHH!!!! sa reviews mabagal naman AF, pero for me ok lang :) If your going for the 50mm range siggy ka na lang, free lenshood na rin and lensbag which will cost almost the same with canon when you buy a lens hood for it.

Kung nakacrop body ka at feelinf mo tight pa rin yung 50mm at 85mm.. check siggys 30mm 1.4. Good reviews too. :)

having tried both 50mm f/1.8 and f/1.4:  get the 1.8.  mas consistent ang autofocus at widest aperture.
as with all of them:  get the 50mm!

assuming you have a crop-frame body here are your other options:
30/35mm  -- equivalent of a 50mm in a film or full-frame camera.  your standard lens.
50mm -- general purpose lens, but not as useful as a 35mm when walking around
85mm -- great for portraits.

If you're not going pro and have no need to impress you clients with your gear, huwag muna bumili ng L lenses.

Mukhang mas mahal ang Sigma 50mm. Magkano naman ang mga 35mm?
