Is your main guitar PERFECT?
« on: April 19, 2006, 01:01:52 AM »
I don't care whether it is a $2500 John Suhr or a highly modified Squier that cost you less than P20,000.

The idea of this thread is to know if you think if you had more money, would you probably be ditching your main axe now hoping for something better?  Of course if you smoke through your Squier Strat now, chances are you would smoke more on a Suhr Strat.  But that is not the point.   By your standards, do you find your main axe perfect for your needs?

Buti sayo "matagal" pa. Sa akin FOREVER.  Hehehe.  I just thought R7's could be better alternatives to R8s and R9s because they are cheaper.  (Not really cheap but less expensive.)

R7s are great... pero halos kapresyo na niya yun mga plaintop r8s... i think the plain jane r8s are 150-300 bucks more expensive lang... yun r9s halos doble ang presyo.... but the new r7s are a bit heavy its already rare to find one below 9.5lbs.... but still lighter than the average usa stds kahit may 9 wt relef holes pa yun std or classic... :D

Honestly, I would rather go for a plaintop lemonburst or unburst (or anything that looks like it)  over a AAAA flametop R9.  That is because I miss my '76 LP.  Si Tom kasi eh...  :(   :(   :(   :(  :(

But the '76 really made me want a '50s design LP.

IMO, there is no "perfect guitar" for anyone. Even some of the guitar greats have multiple guitars that they use. But sometimes I force myself to think that what I have is the "perfect" guitar coz otherwise I'd never stop wanting something else.

I would love to have lots of different LPs like Farseer or a bunch of different PRS guitars, But realistically, I cannot justify spending so much money on a particular guitar considering that I don't think it would improve my playing if I do buy them.

As to whether I'm happy with what I have, for sure. And I think that's what's most important. :)

i think i saw that one... yan yun parang greco ang shape ng headstock... its light burst di ba??? i had 3 gibson lespauls from the 70s... never liked any of them... mabigat at di resonant.... but im sure there are some good lespauls from that era, mas bihira nga lang :D

ever since i saw mels r8, na hypnotize na ako ng mga flame top... mas trip ko yun di ganun ka perfect- old looking tops :D

Mine was modded.  If you are referring to the one with a 3-pc top, lightburst, with Kluson tuners, small headstock, then that's the one.  It sounded more '50s than most modern LPs, hence I miss it.

I don't have a main guitar. I use several guitars for different tones that I wanted to hear. Having one main guitar would limit my playing. :)

i dont have a main guitar as well - it all depends on what sound I need at the moment. If its just for practicing then I grab the easiest guitar to get to if something is outside of its case at the moment.

More often than not though, I use acoustics over my electrics for practicing which are my 2 Alvarez Yairi, a DY62 and a WY1.

for my needs, yes. its simple, sounds good, stays in tune and can take a beating. thats why my backup is another tele. and if i had money to burn, i'd probably get another tele but drop in different (hotter maybe) pickups. backup for the backup.

Basta it has the right feel and the type of music applied. I only have 2 guitars right now, the Yamaha SA2000 has good ballsy sound while the Guya has a brighter sound. I use my guya for acoustic jams or some jazz sounding music jams it has a nice resonance and feel, the SA is my main axe for driven sounds.
I have stated that there are more bad sounding suhrs then there are good ones.

By your standards, do you find your main axe perfect for your needs?

i don't think i have one main guitar. what i try to keep is one of each of the "food groups" -- strat, tele, LP, semi-hollow (+ acoustic, resonator... i also want a pedal/lap steel, btw. :-).  as abyss said, we like them for different reasons and applicatons. one is not better than the other, just different.

none of them are perfect, if there is even such a thing.  but there are indeed a lot of better gtrs out there.  so, to answer your question, yes, i would ditch my 'main' gtr in each "food group" if i had money to buy something better. heck, i've ditched gtrs for more mundane reasons (eg, "research", "not having settled on my sense of taste", etc.).

bakit laging "she" ang guitar?  bakit hindi "he"?  sabagay, strange naman kung sabihin natin na "i love my guitar" tapos "he" ang guitar...

so dumating na!  exciting 'no?  is "she" all that you expected "her" to be?
