guitar -> pedals ->scarlett 2i2 -> reaper (vst: amplitube)
vs
guitar -> pedals -> mic'd amp -> scarlett 2i2 -> reaper

nag attempt kasi ako mag record nung isang araw, yung setup ko is yung first option ang lakas nung grounded sound. pag gumamit ba ako nung 2nd option mawawala or malelessen kaya yung grounded sound nya?

nagtataka kasi ako pag nagjajam lang ako sa bahay using guitar and amp di naman ganun kalakas yung grounded sound nya.

eto pala yung narecord ko nung isang araw pagpasensyahan nyo na di ko pa nababasa tong thread na to that time. hehe  :-)
https://soundcloud.com/uselessfingers/ether

For option 1, I would suggest you use Cabinet/Amp Sim on your vst, para ma-feel mo na "buo" yung guitar sound mo. This might eliminate the digital "sterile" sound you get when recording directly to PC.

Also, you can try these other vst's for your Amp Sims: http://lepouplugins.blogspot.com/

magkano yan?

1. bad cables
2. CFL/fluorescent lights (switch to incandescent? or magrecord sa dilim)
3. CRT computer monitor (switch to LCD monitor or turn off CRT monitor when recording). same story with CRT TV.
4. AVR (voltage regulator).
5. Other appliances.
6. placement/distance of all that stuff.

baka ma-daan sa feng-shui (konting usog-usog ng mga gamit). minsan kase parang antenna ang guitar cable/gear eh, hanapan mo ng position para hindi maka-pick up ng 'estasyon'. diba pag may rabbit antenna ka, iniikot-ikot mo para klaro reception? in this case opposite ang gagawin mo, yung mga electronic equipment mo medyo uurung-urungin mo lang. ganyan talaga construction dito sa pinas, hindi properly grounded mga bahay/appliance (pwera sa washing machine, A/C, or ref).

pag meron pa rin, gamit ka ng noise gate plugin, start ka sa -60 dB threshold then work your way up.

Hi guys! 'been a while since I last posted on this thread. My band is currently producing our own materials, and I am the one mixing our songs. I can improve the mix further. Give me some insights, the good and the bad about it. This was our first track.  :) Just don't be too harsh ah, still in the process of learning. hahaha!

pre, mas interesting siguro kung upload ka sa mediafire or google drive ng individual tracks (drums, bass, guitar, vox, etc) para ma-download at ma-mix/master ng kung sino man ang willing/able/available. just make sure na raw tracks lang, like no dynamics processing, reverb, other fx, etc and no clipping.

i'm sure some peeps here would like something to play with (as long intel.prop.rights are not violated). game?

hindi ako makapag comment properly kase netbook gamit ko, so pasensiya na, pero parang medyo 'voice-over' yung dating ng vocals, gets mo? parang DJ speaking over the music. like the vox is not in the same room with the band. pre, don't take offense ha, i'm listening through tinny netbook speakers. peace!

Yes sir, noted yan. Hirap kasi isit in ang vocals talaga, hirap na hirap ako dun. Reply ka ulit if napakinggan mo with better speakers. Thanks for the comments, I really appreciate it. Will keep your comments when i remix the track.

I'll try to upload the raw tracks sir, if my makupad net will allow me to. I'll bounce/consolidate the tracks, and will upload a zipped file siguro. I will in the following days siguro. Thank you sir for the suggestion.

it's amazing how we've come a long way when it comes to music production. i remember the xanctuary version of this song (supposedly pro studio), recta lang yung bass and guitars sa mixer (di ko lam kung via DI), tapos sumablay pa yung divebomb (wala nang take 2 kase mahal ang studio time). overall, terrible recording from an otherwise awesome live band.

Drums:
Mid heavy. Actually ang na-accentuate mo is yung "box" frequencies (aka. yung tunog kahon). Needs more of pretty much every other frequency. Importante sa drums though, yung 100-200Hz for the kick, tapos yung mga "tunog lata" frequencies (I think nasa bandang 1k-2kHz). Ingat lang sa cymbals, they tend to get really harsh, but the easiest (but not best) way to EQ the cymbals is to do a mid schoop.

Bass:
Needs a lot of compression, but I would personally compress and automate this one. masyado litaw yung upper register. Di ko na papakialaman yung tone ng bass, but IMO I'd gun for a compressed DI sound (no amp sim) with a lowpass filter.

Vocals:
More reverb and high shelf EQ.

Guitars:
Mid boost sa upper mids, for more meat, then up in the mix. Scooped kasi yung dating, tapos kailangan konting lakas pa. Masyado sya nasa background. And something that applies to records that doesn't work with live: ibaba mo rin yung lead guitar sa mix, tapos idaan mo sa EQ and reverb. You want it to sit in the mix kasi "epic" yung dating nung solo so "space" is preferable in this case than being "in your face."

Something to play with...

Closing Time (Semisonic)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzyPuhJD-CzMWGNDM0cwbVJlQlU/view?usp=sharing
(90 mb zip file)

Raw individual tracks you can mix/master (and play-along with). All tracks are bone-dry (no reverb) and uncompressed... at may kasama pang lyrics/chords (gitara na lang ang kulang).

001_Cue
002_Drums_Kick
003_Drums_Snare
004_Drums_Toms
005_Drums_HiHat
006_Drums_Ride
007_Drums_Crash
008_Bass
009_Keys
010_FullStrings
011_Cellos
012_Spicatto

Just align all tracks to the left and it should sync perfectly. Happy mixing!

Hi guys, may nagturo sa akin dito for bedroom recording  :-D
