Eventide's Space costs $579. If the only thing good they have to offer is the "shimmer" effect. Then, i'd rather go for Strymon's BSR instead. ...a pre-owned unit, perhaps. $299 is still pretty high for me too.

I'm hoping they price it not more than the timefactor, para competitive. But I won't be surprised if they go for the prices ng Empress.

I think pete thorn's demo of the El Capistan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ai_T809U0A) is ok as well.

Really liking mine:

Worth the wait for new stocks noon at pag-iipon :-D

I want to post a review soon. It's really nice sounding. Daming options (knobs also have a secondary function like reverb, tape crinkle, etc). I don't think there's a tape delay emulator out there than can do what it does (what with all the options like artifacts and tape age, etc). And I like the aluminum finish :-D no paint to chip there.

Cons.. It's picky sa power supply. It comes with one though (autovolt naman). But I know some people don't like having an extra adapter to plug in. It can be powered with an isolated power supply though, like the Voodoo Labs one. Ayaw lang niya na nasa dc chain talaga (kaya paminsan, but it can get noisy). No biggie for me naman. The tap tempo isn't your usual 'soft' switch. It's not hard to step on though. If you like presets, it doesn't have any. You can buy an extra Favorite Switch from Strymon which will let you store 1 preset. I know that's a deal breaker for some, lalo na for live uses. That said, I still think the sound more than makes up for it. I don't use a lot of different delay times when I'm with a band. Manageable for me to step down to move some knobs. If the preset is not that important for you, you can plug in an expression pedal. Useful siya for changing the mix knob :-D it can be set to change any parameter on the delay.

It's a lot easier to order one now :-D dati, months in between restocks. Strymon only sells directly (except in some countries, na may dealers). Pero 'pag sa US or anywhere else, sakanila lang talaga. 5 guys lang sila sa Strymon. One's an ex-Line 6 engineer yata. Oks din customer service nila. Emailed Terry at Strymon a couple of times and he answered all my questions.

@ Teleclem:

I'd like to know how does it compare to a pair of Boss DD5's in series, one being a dotted eighth and the other a quarter note? Those are my least requirements in case i'd consider getting one as well. Can it do the same "twin-delay" sounds as well? How does compare against the TC Nova Delay set on Dynamic?

It's really good to know that there are a lot of things the El Capistan can do. But, I'm more concerned about the accessibility once you're on stage already. Since, from where i'm standing, i think those features the said unit can perform may only be maximized during recordings.

Post by: teleclem on February 04, 2011, 08:12:56 AM
Hi.

I haven't really tried the two Boss delays at the same time. But I'm guessing that it's the same as the twin delay of a Timefactor? In that case, not exactly. On the 'Fixed Head' setting,  you can only select 1/16th, 1/8th, and 1/4th times separately. I think something similar can be achieved on the 'Multi Head' setting, but it won't really be exact. Haven't tried a Nova Delay, so I can't comment on that one. But compared to a DD-3 or DD-20, I think this can cop 'ambient' sounds much better because of the included reverb. It can also do clean delays, but yung unique talaga na strength niya yung mga worn out tape sounds.

On the fly tweakability for the secondary functions is going to be hard (in between songs and such). To access them kasi, tatapakan mo yung both footswitches at the same time. Sa primary functions, ok naman. But wala talagang presets. With the added Fav Switch, 1 preset lang meron. So it depends talaga 'pag live, if presets are important for the player.

Thanks for your honest response, Teleclem. I noticed that the El Cap's sounds far warmer than the DD5's; and yes, it does have that sort-of reverb sound in it as well. I've only heard about the ND-1's Dynamic and Empress' Twin-delay settings over YouTube; and yes, that's pretty much the same galloping effect i'm looking for, at a minimum. The kind of "noise" i'm hearing is a really good feature from how i've heard on Pete Thorn's demo. Pretty much reminiscent of the earlier tape delays. But, given what you've said that it can not do the "twin delay" sound, i guess i'll just have to settle on my DD5's, for now. ...i'm also opting for a smaller footprint pedal that can do the same, that's why i asked. Thanks again, sir. :-)

I tried my friend's El Capistan today and wasn't really the kind of delay/sound I was looking for. I think it's more of a YMMV thing. I might get the Eventide Timefactor instead.

black and shiny  pm'd nga pala bro. noticed may stock sila nung switch.

@sheepsmellslikeseashells: Sure thing :-)

For a do-it-all delay, it's not the one talaga. It's really more of a tape delay. Kaya limited talaga siya for that sound. It depends on the needs and preferred delay type/tone of the the player. :-)

Kung one delay for everything, talagang timefactor (they said the new update sounds awesome)/timeline(i'd wait for this before buying a timefactor. im sure maraming magcocompare ng both)/superdelay.

Yeah. Pero hindi yata Damage Control at the start. Parang sila nagtakeover after some time. I think one of the Strymon guys is an ex line6 engineer nga. Not sure who.

The timeline page was updated with so much info recently. Pretty overwhelming. I think it's cool that we can see all the features before it's released (with an adequate number of clips & descriptions). Para pagdating, medyo familiar ka na with this.

i own both an el capistan and bluesky pedals they are very nice pedals.

while i dont experiment and look for "perfect pedals" as far as delays and reverbs are concerned, i dont think about selling them the same way i did with the past delays: echopark, DD7, DD6, DD3, digitech delay

Cool. Do you have both on board?

I think that'd be cool, especially since the Timeline can't do everything the El Cap does. I just had to sell the El Cap since I couldn't afford to have both.

currently i do. i have a couple pieces where i use the "Ice" preset for a few passages. if i didn't need the fancy schamncy things on the songs, i'd be able to hack it through songs with just the El Cap.

Finally got my M-Audio UNO today! (I know I know.. this update has been out for some time.. it made the wait for this cable even harder haha)

At first, I couldn't get the update to work ('loading' screen wasn't showing up). I then did some back-reading on this thread and found that the labels on the midi plugs of the UNO were pretty confusing (the 'out' end actually corresponded to 'in' in terms of function). I did that and still no luck. I then went on to download the latest driver from M-Audio's website since I figured the one in the included CD was probably out of date. After that, it worked flawlessly.. literally finished within a minute or so.

I also did the preset update for 50-99. Worked fine.

I really dig the spillover feature. That's something I've been waiting for. I didn't bother with global tap since I wouldn't really use it much (at least until they update it to be selectable per preset). Kill dry is something I could utilize in the future.

As for preset naming, I think it's also nice. It was nice to see the Strymon names for the factory presets (I haven't edited banks 50-99 because I want to have access to the "standard" presets for when I''m bored/exploring/writing). It gave me a sense of what they were going for. I haven't started naming my presets though. I put it back to no preset naming for now since it seems like it would be hard navigating a lot of presets without knowing where you are (absence of any bank indications). Maybe I could name them with numbers to make that easier (ie. "1xyz", "2xyz", etc).

I'll spend the afternoon digging into the new looper controls. They seem handy (especially the looper level controls).

All in all, a great update, imo. I hope they come out with more in the future.

Trem/verb.

Sounds great on the clips on the website. Interesting to see verb and trem together. The verb seems similar to the Neunaber Wet reverb.

Yeah, definitely looks interesting. I wonder how they can protect the Blue Sky sales from being cannibalized by this product's own sales. They're the same price and form factor. And this seems to offer more sounds.

We interrupt your regular broadcasting to bring you late-breaking news..

Strymon pedals to be locally available in mid-August.  Accepting preorders soon.

--and now back to your regularly scheduled program..

That's great! Now, I'm considering to get one---a pedal that isn't as 'overwhelming' as the rest of the bunch :)

From my experience with Strymon, the quality (of the product and the customer support) is better than just about any I've seen.

The Flint is tempting.. but I may try a Stereo Wet muna because it's smaller. :)

Question for Timeline users: it seems that if you want to use the looper with the pedal bypassed, it always follows the settings of the bank you're on, such that sometimes, it won't record if the Persist setting is off in that patch. Tried setting the bypass to buffered but no cigar. The workaround seems to be setting it on a patch with Persist set on, turning it off then looping from there. Thoughts? :)

From a user in the Voodoo Lab Forums:

I just got done measuring the actual current draw of a Timeline and it actually draws less than 250mA in any mode... this means that the Strymon Timeline can be powered directly from output 5 or 6 on a Pedal Power 2+ with the corresponding DIP switch set to Normal using one of the supplied standard barrel cables.

However if you're using another Strymon pedal, the ideal setup seems to be to plug the first pedal (Flint, Bluesky, etc) onto one of the high-powered outputs (5 or 6), then to power the Timeline using a current doubler to jumper 2 outputs: one from 1-4, then another from 5 or 6.

Parang hindi ko ata na-gets yung sinulat ko. hahaha.

Hahaha!  Nabasa ko din yan nung nagre-research ako, bro.  Hindi ko din naintindihan!  Hahahaha!   :-D

Hahahaha

Bottom line is yes it shouldn't be a problem; just make sure you plug it into 5 or 6 with the Dip switches in the Normal position.

Those outputs "officially" give only 250mA each, but apparently Voodoo Lab was just playing it safe and overdesigned it to give more juice than indicated.
On the other hand the Timeline "officially" needs 250mA (300mA?), but apparently Strymon was just playing it safe also; it needs less than that.

Bro, I'm just using a Dunlop DC Brick. So far ok naman. Minsan kasi pag nag-research pa ng mas malalim dumadami lang ang di maiintindihan hahaha! We're supposed to be playing and enjoying not turning into electricians and scientists hehe. Basta ok naman ang tone then the supply of power is sufficient  :-D

Will try this one pag nagkaron ng time. Di ko pa na-encounter ito as I'm not using its looper extensively.

Kaso bro pag sinaksak yung Timeline sa either 5 or 6, hindi na pwede gamitin yung isa pang slot (5 or 6 din)?  Hay nako!  Ewan ko ba!  LOL!

That's not the case, for me. I've always used my Bluesky as an ambient tool. Thank heavens for the 'favorite' switch, I instantly have two reverb pedals in one! so, I'd rather get a Strymon BSR than two Verbzilla's (SRP: P9,9++.00 @ Perfect Pitch). ...well, i actually got mine still fresh & new in the pre-owned market for P11K and i'm not so finicky with regards to tremolo sounds, at all. So, i still have P2,500.00 to spare for a Mooer Trelicopter or a Danelectro Tuna Melt tremolo pedal. Besides, it's just a set-&-forget pedal to me; just one tremolo setting for the rest of the line-up is all i need.

Mas sulit yun sa tingin ko. ...what ever floats your boat, actually. *just my two cents* :-)

actually you have a point here,, i guess case to case basis yung "need" for a certain pedal, depends din sa music you're playing..and again sa "need" ng sound mo right? sa case kasi ni pete  gusto niya may flint siya at may timeline siya pero feeling ko by next next month or so maGAGAS lang yan bigla sa bluesky hahaha at bibili nanaman yan para sa motto na "importante meron ka"

in case naman sakin mas usable si flint keysa kay timeline kasi my sound require most the reverb and tremolo,,so kung pipiliin ako between timeline, flint and bluesky...id go for the FLINT :)
