kung may banda malapit sa inyo (big band), normally, if you're really interested, they will teach you for free, and even let you use their instrument for free, ang trade-in lang is once na matuto ka na, sa kanila ka sasamang banda at hindi sa kalaban nila... pwede ka sumama sa iba as long as walang engagement ang banda nila.

mga sirs tingin nyo kapag bumili ako ng sax today at nagsimulang mag-self study, will i be able to play at least 1 composition on my wedding on march 2010? or will it take more time than 3 months to learn how to play the sax on my own.

mga sir help me may tanong ako which is better ang sound, silver or gold plated sax? or does it have any difference in tones.

..better sound or tone? ..it depends on the player...
They said silver plated saxophones has a brighter tone.. but on my experience, it's not always true...lots of factors to be considered...one is the mouthpiece , baffled mouthpieces produced brighter tone...also the reed... personally i like the v16 vandoren when playing with rock band,combo.....
...bihira na ang gold plated ngayon ..most of the "gold" saxophones are (gold) lacquered & not plated..
Btw, anong brand ng mouthpiece ang kasama sa sax mo?.. for beginner , i personally recommoend plastic/ebonite mouthpiece which is easier to control....join the SAX society of the Phils..i 'm sure you will learn a lot from our maestros there.. and our fellow forum member Vince Lahorra is there too..i'm sure he will help you. ..

If we talk about sound it is very important that your instrument whether it be gold plated or silver is not relacquered. Also in my experience, an instrument that was played over time will produce a more robust and better sound than an instrument kept and played only a few times.

thanks alot for your comments sir.

why not try softer reeds like size 2 before buying another piece? ..
i think bari mouthpieces are better than yami 4c...we'll ..4c mpcs are for beginners...hmmm..pag may nakita ka at mura..ok na rin .just keep your bari pag naupgrade ka..
forgot to tell you... most saxophones built with ribbed construction produced darker tone than those w/o ..and saxophone that has pads with metal resonators plays brighter...

Hello, im new here... natuwa ako when i saw this forum and thread. I thought i was alone:)

Anyway, ive been playing for more then 10yrs now, but i never pursued music professionaly, thus i consider myself a newbie.  I have an Beusher Aristocrat200, A Con 21M and a Selmer Aristocrat AS600.  All Alto Saxophones.    I play occasionaly with bands focused in JAZZ, POP and 70's music, saka tumutugtog rin ako during regular services in church:)

I learned alot from back reading here.  Dami Pala SAXY players out there!:) mabuhay ang mga REEDS ng pilipinas:)

BTW, is there a specific thread where i can sell one of my saxophones?
