Mga sir,

I was holding my purchase of a JJ snare (which I have tried and loved) as well as an Omar Hakim Snare due to curiousity of the Ahead Snares.

Any feedback on those snares?

I see alot of great snares in this forum and we all know they are not cheap at all.

I play metal music (think Meshuggah and Disturbed) and I was hoping you can help me get a highly suitable snare for a budget of 20K.

Thanks!~

Ever considered a Ludwig Supraphonic Snare? Ebay perhaps, to make it cheaper?

kung metal music, I would suggest a bronze snare.

hth...

iilan lang ang nakita kong reviews nung ahead black on brass. Positive naman. Though ang description nila eh pinagsama-samang off the shelf components yon. Hindi ko rin alam kung may local distributor non. Kahit sa states, hindi ko rin nakita yon sa mga drum shops na napuntahan ko (though maliliit lang ung napuntahan ko). Kung settled ka na sa brass, I would suggest looking for something local. Not to sound promoting mapex but some of the mapex brass snares I've heard are good, specially the black panther line. Kung may makikita ka din na pork pie big black bob, ayos din yon.  Personally, kung brass, I would go for a 13" x 6" or x6.5". For some reason, mas gusto ko ung tunog nung deeper 13" sa brass snare kaysa sa mga 14".

I've been dreaming of a 13x6 gretsch hammered chrome on brass...

try mo din ludwig acrolite, the current black galaxy model. 14"x6.5" acrolites are hard to come by but can be had for around 15k, me bag na. it's basically a powder coated version of the supra (aluminum shell, 10 lugs - but the 14x5 only has 8 lugs, supra snare wires, P-85). drier compared to the supra dahil sa powder coat

it's all part of the fun (and process of making sure hindi ka magsisisi :-) )

Kung dyan sa dalawa, I would go for the black panther kasi may local pre-sales and after-sales support, matetesting mo and kung may problem, may mapupuntahan ka.. Makaka-order ka rin ng spare parts.

Good luck.

here's my new baby

diy aluminum 12x5 snare. raw and unfinished. cant comment on the sound yet. hindi pa nagsettle yung heads. kailangan muna ng konting malambing na bugbog.

http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8440787

sound clip was recorded with 4 mics: sm57 on the snare, samson qkick on bass drum and a pair of behringer c2 condensers.  raw/not eq'd/not processed.  snare is tuned low-medium for a fat warm sound. next ko na lang susubukan yung tight tuning para unti unting mastretch yung new heads
