Thought I could use a modeller amp after years without a floor unit. So I bought a roland cube40XL. Tinanong ko pa dito yan sa GC. Lol. It's really a cool amp, and on occasion I use the looper function to pitch ideas or record backing tracks whenever I jam with friends.
But... I find it occupies the same space for my needs as the laney cub10 I also own. And quite frankly, I'm happier with the tube amp. Nasa box lang yung roland, waiting for a buyer who could really use a good practice amp (ehem!). Palugi na din yung benta, kasi sayang lang talaga sa bahay namin.
Lesson 1, evaluate what you really need and define the exact situations and possible dates on the calendar you'll really get to use it.
Lesson 2, save the cash, there's always gear you could better afford if you hang on to the money, yung malupit na if you're gonna buy again. Applies to major signal components, e.g. guitar, pickups, amp, and pedals. Otherwise, follow firemodel55's advice and consider them as crap. Gear flipping is a ruthless cycle in the guise of tone-chasing.
Lesson 3, spend the money on small upgrades you could use, spare tubes, cables, pots, caps, wiring harnesses, strings, speaker cabs. At least those teach you how to work with what you have and what affects what.
Lesson 4, avoid the forum if you're a hair trigger away from buying. You are always 'encouraged' and 'consented' to try new stuff.
PS: I must add, if you enjoy having a TON of stuff go through your hands, and lose money in the process for the sake of fun and learning, the lessons above aren't for you! Live and let live lang. I certainly pay my respects to the GAS gods, and enjoy vicariously through their purchases. NGD, NAD, NCD, or NOGD pa yan!
